Sure. My name is the same as it is here, deedubbs. I gained some weight after breaking my ankle, then developing arthritis in it, but dropped 30lbs in 2012. I am 205 right now, but my goal is to weigh 195lbs when I go to Vegas on 3/19. I currently weigh 205, but I am 6'4", which basically makes me a skinny-fat man.

I just read some the part of this thread about your foot pain. I broke my distal fibula and have arthritis in that ankle (I'm only 36!), but I bought a "foot rocker" on ebay for like $15 and it has helped a lot. It would probably be helpful if you have tightness in your calf and Achilles. You might want to look into that, but yoga is definitely going to be helpful, too.

Here is a small update: I have been keeping on track of 1700 calories or less pretty much everyday, or if I do go over 1700 the net is less since I can deduct exercise. I have been having issues with blisters on my feet in the same spot every time I go for a "long" run. I have tried the blister stick thing that looks like a small deodorant stick that is supposed to reduce friction. I use non-cotton running socks, and my shoes are a half size bigger than I normall wear since feet swell during a run. Anyway today I was determined to go over a half maraton distance. I was not pleased with my time it was terrible! I was out of gas around mile 6 and considered just making it a 7 mile loop for the day but I continued. When I got to Sunset and Eastern I almost called my spouse to pick me up because I was exhausted. I did finish the loop, but figured I had walked about 1/4 of it. I am at 192 right now, I am frustrated because I am just not dropping the weight like I would like to be. I don't think I am building that much muscle from my lifting so I doubt it is that either. Oh well. The Wizard definitely has me beat on a 1/2 maraton time right now!

My weight loss does not seem to be as popular as HB"s. Oh well. Anyway I had a good day today. I stuck to about 1200 calories! I also did three classes at the gym today : 1) Bootcamp 2) Yoga 3) cycling. I also did about 45 min of weight lifting and 30 min on the elliptical machine. With the exercise I am at about -1100 calories for the day. The MyFitnessPal app said if everyday were like today I would be 150ish in 5 weeks. I do remember when I was 150ish I was doing 4 hours of cardio everyday when I was in high school. The enterprise rent a car people are talking to me about their "management in training program". I have read mixed reviews about it online, but I do like the fact it would be a steady paycheck. It works out to about 37k a year (much more than I am making now working 2,3, days a week 4 if I am lucky). Only downside it is 49 hours a week, I won't be able to go to a lot of the classes at the gym I like anymore. I also am thinking about doing this 14 month accelerated bachelors in nursing program that I am 3 classes short of the prerequisites. It is about 50k to do the program, and I would not be able to work for the duration of it. I am not in favor of doing the program because if I don't make it I will have quit my "job" and be stuck with a huge debt. Anyway thats where I am now.

Hang in there Nick.....not being as popular as the train wreck that was much of the HB thread is a good thing. Just cause folks aren't posting as much doesn't mean some people aren't following your journey. Good luck!

Hi I don't think I will, it is what the myfitness pal app says if everyday were like today. There is no way I can do 4 hours of exercise everyday I would get sick. A key part of exercise is a day or two off a week to let the body heal. I like to think with all my free time exercising is better time spent then just watching junk on Netflix. I have applied to dozens of jobs on USAJobs.gov and the nevada state job page. I don't have much hope for the monster/careerbuilder jobs I have applied to.

I'm a big fan of "no pain, no pain". If the long runs are causing you problems with blisters, why not just stick to short runs until your feet heal? Or run on a treadmill that has a softer surface? There's no sense in crippling yourself just to be skinny, especially if you're job-hunting. A prospective employer might not want to hire someone who comes limping to an interview, thinking you're going to be making a lot of health-care claims right off the bat.

Why are non-cotton socks a good thing to wear for running? I thought cotton was good because it breathed and absorbed any sweat.

I finally broke the 190's I weighed in at 189 on Saturday. In other news I am leaving the casino business at the end of March to work as an insurance claims adjuster. Pay is about what I make now dealing, but I will work 40 hours a week and have great benefits so its worth it for me. From what I researched on the position many people do not like it, but I am willing to give it a try.

My wifes nephew is an adjuster. Its the most suck ass
job you can imagine, thats why you landed it. They
always have openings. The reason it sucks is you have
to put up with crap on both ends. The customer literally
screams in your face that he's getting screwed, and the
company wants you to cut every corner possible, screw
the customer every chance you get, and make them like
it. So no matter what you do, somebody isn't happy. So
the job has a huge turnover rate.

The nephew stays with it because he got a cherry job in
a place nobody wants to work: Montana. He gets paid
really well and doesn't handle all that many claims. There's
a huge amount of driving involved, which he gets paid
for. He's been divorced twice because he's gone so much.
But he loves big game hunting and MT has that up the
wazoo.

Don't be shocked if you hate this job worse than dealing.
People get really in your face pissed when you tell them
they're getting half the money they think they should get.

Hey, you might like it. Learn to let the customers vent until they run out of steam. For years I worked evening shift for AT&T and
had to deal with customers who had been lied to all day. Either told the problem was not AT&T's or promised it would have been fixed hours ago. Once I got the hang of it, I never had any real troubles with irate customers. LET THEM VENT !
Shed not for her the bitter tear Nor give the heart to vain regret Tis but the casket that lies here, The gem that filled it Sparkles yet

I am used to unhappy customers at work. Fortunately for me I will be behind a desk in an office instead of 12" from a player who wants to shoot or stab me (and one even said he was going to get a knife from his car to do it too!). I agree letting them vent is the best way to do it. They should not be doing it to you, but it is what it is. I look forward to a steady paycheck.

How can you be a claims adjuster and work
behind a desk? They go into the field and
assess the claim, figure out the damages
and lie to the customer about how much
they'll be getting. How can you do that behind
a desk?

Edit. I was just reading that most new adjusters
start on a desk job so they can be trained in how
to best screw the customer. These people wait
for the day they can become field adjusters and
get out of the office and dealing with screaming
customers all day.

I have had to deal with claims adjusters several times
in my life. You haven't started yet so I can be honest.
I hate them, they're professional liars and crooks. They
will do everything they can not to pay you what you
have coming and lie thru their teeth to make you go
away. I'm sure they don't start out that way, but the
constant pressure from above overwhelms them.

Yes I include my wifes nephew in that assessment. He's
a jerk, and he's in the right profession. When he was
a teen, he relentlessly browbeat his parents and now
he has a job that suits him perfectly.

Read my edit to the post above yours. Be careful,
Nick, you become what you do.

The good thing is, if you don't like the company
you work for, stick with it for 6 months and you
can go anywhere and get an adjuster job because
you have experience. You will eventually find
a company you can live with.

Nick I'm sure you've thought of this but after you gain som experience you may want to look into becoming a private adjuster. You can basically make all your money in a few months if you wanted to. Spoke to multiple guys who have got into that business and they travel around to effected areas ( like new york/ new jersey for hurricane sandy) and make tons of money in a short time. Lots of people hire private adjusters because they don't trust the insurance companies to give them a fair adjustment

If you have a big claim you should always hire
a private adjuster to counter the rip off amount
the insurance company will try and stick you with.

Today is probably my best day so far. I ran 15.8 miles, did yoga, and am about to go to body combat. With the food I have eaten today, and the calories I burned from exercise I will be at -1800 for today.

Hi, my time was 3:01:57 for 15.81 miles. It is not an impressive time, but I was happy I did the distance. I pretty much walked after 14 miles, I was exhausted and dehydrated. I should get one of those Camelbaks so I can take water with me.

Really well worth while, or just a water belt and bottle, with a couple of snacks (jelly beans or similar), really helps you keep going.

Body Combat

I joined Nick at 24 hour fitness tonight (Wigwam and Pecos Road), and I tried the body combat class. lasted about 2 minutes. It was Way beyond me now, and I have to rebuild my heart health gently.
So I went to a tread mill, and walked 2.1 miles at 3.2 miles per hour, with a heart rate of 115. That was VERY good for me. I cannot approach his level of cardio fitness yet.
