When I was ready to leave, I handed the player a WoO/WoV business card, told her the dealers were giving her good info, thanked the dealers for doing that, and gave them a tip.

Huh, what is a WoO/WoV business card? Did I miss an anouncement or something?
Are we, the minions of the Wizard of Odds, to be spreading the mathematically correct news by handing these cards to unwise casino patrons??

There hadn't been an official announcement yet, although I have mentioned this in the past.

And, yeah, as the Wizard's minions, I think spreading the gospel about "Having a Good Bet", the Ten Commandments, and "Say No to 6:5" is not only the least we can do; It's our responsibility.

I first met Mike in Oct 2010.

On my next trip to Vegas, Oct 2011, I gave Mike a surprise gift, I handed him a small box of business cards:

I told Mike he should give them to members at the Wov coffees and WoVCon, There was no back side. I figured it would allow members to write their user name on the back, etc.

Mike was impressed with both the simplicity, as well as the color gradation that tied in the background colors of the two sites. In the conversation that followed, I told him about my design experience, etc. As a result, he asked me to design a new personal business card. Because it has personal info, I'm not posting a picture.

He also asked about designing a new header for WoO and WoV. As it turned out, the original designer created a header that is beyond my capabilities, but it meant the cards I had just provided were already old.

On my next trip, May 2012 for the SHFL Focus Group I, I handed asked him if he had any of the WoO / WoV card to hand out to members. Embarrassed, he admited that he didn't think of it. I let him off the hook by immediately giving him a new box with the new design, and told him to ditch the old cards. Frankly, becuase of the Yellow Brick Road, I needed to position the headers at the bottom of the card half. The new header design required a new treatment, which also allowed them to be at the top of the card half. On the old card, nearly everyone thinks they're upside-down. With the new cards, people are more apt to realize there are two up sides.

Note:
The BJ strategy back is the same as the backside of the personal cards I made for Mike.
Also, the black border was added for the web image.

As I hand out these cards, I hold them with the WoO side at the top and say, "The Wizard of Odds is a math guru who is occasionally featured on the Vegas TV shows, and provides advice on every casino game there is." I then rotate the card. "The Wizard of Vegas has casino reviews and other Vegas related stuff, as well as a discusion forum. If you go there, I'm 'DJTeddyBear'." I then flip the card over. "And if you need it, this is the Wizard's simple BlackJack strategy." And then hand them the card.

It never fails to produce genuine gratitude. Often other people, sometimes including dealers, will overhear this and ask for a card.

Bottom line: Feel free to ask Mine for cards when you meet him, and bust his chops if he forgets to carry them. And/or send him a PM asking him to drop a few in the mail.

Later today, I'll post PDF versions in you want to get them printed yourself.

Mike: If you need more, let me know.

You can down load the PDF's here. Right click and chose "Save As..."

Note that they are slightly larger than the standard 3.5 x 2 business card side. These are sized for upload to OvernightPrints.com. They require the bleed area even if there is no bleed to the artwork. Note that they do very good work, at great prices. The only problem with the company is the name. They are not exactly overnight. More like a couple days to process, then however long it takes UPS to get them to you. They DO offer express service for a price.....

I was at the Focus Group, I was at the G2E hamburger dinner too. I never got a card. If I don't get one next time I meet Mike, I will start to wonder !!

Hmmm... Now that I think about it, I DID ask him if he had the cards with him while we were at I Heart Burgers. He produced a stack of the older cards. I forget if I reminded him to distribute them or not.

Bottom line: PM him with your address and have him send you some.... of either design.

Now that I think about it, I'm not sure how I feel about handing out a card without full BS on it...I know it would be a tight squeeze and the Wiz's simple strategy is close...but still...gotta hit those 12s against 2 and 3!

Mike's original card (the one he had BEFORE he asked me to redesign it), DID have the full Basic Strategy on the back. But it was so tiny, it was a nightmare to try to read. It was Mike's idea to use the simplified strategy. For the record, there were a couple details that I questioned. The only one I can think of is the comment to surrender 16 vs 10. I asked if that should say 10 or A, Mike said no.

I just ordered 500. (I did the glossy cards, I don't know how much that added but glossy front and back are more durable.) In my opinion, the $40 invested in advertising the Wizard's sites is excellent value in return for the information I've received, and for the pleasure I've taken in the discussions.

Got my cards today; VERY nice. I'm looking forward to distributing them. My method will be to play with one in front of me, and pass them out if someone asks for one.
