For those who wonder about the net effect of a casino on "the economy" the Washington Post has a "literature review". A guess a literature review is a rehash of nonsense from various sources with nothing subjected to rigorous scrutiny.

Even for those who consider problem gambling to be significant it is curious to know what "double the risk" means: from one percent to two percent?

The woman who a few hours ago died after a fall from the sixth floor of a casino parking lot in Indiana might have had some views on the matter but not much opportunity to express them cogently on the way down. Suicide or foul play is unknown.

Ofcourse as election day approaches we have various casino related campaigns: Oregon features a six million dollar effort to get a privately owned casino that was outspent by a thousand percent via Indian casino front organizations. Maryland seems to have some casino initiatives mostly financed by casino owners in neighboring states.
