Quote: odiousgambitI don't check your numbers, but it would seem so. A lot of very well paid stock pickers have done no better and sometimes much worse than the market. Many, many, never believed the oil prices would stay low so long.
if long term surplus, then oil HAS to go lower since there's only a finite space to store it.
(and that cap is approaching this summer.)
unless production is cut, I see $20 oil by fall.

I can see where, barring a large war, oil prices will stay low and may never recover.

Given all the folks with chronic back problems and other painful conditions, such a technology could be profitable.
Any idea what company or companies a curious investor should take a look at in regard to this?

I recall seeing someone who conjectured that the company, referred to by the stock gumshoes' article about neural imprinting, was NVDA. I had dismissed researching further since I thought that NVDA was overpriced.

Quote: steeldcoI have NVIV in my portfolio and I have to say that it is well undervalued. Current market cap is around $200M and I believe that it will become several billion once their scaffold is approved. I believe that the chances are excellent that it will get quick approval. What will really drive this is the approval and then the stepped up PR on being able to combine the scaffold with stem cells. That will be the real huge revenue producer, but I believe that the approval and then the promise will drives this up considerably. Just my 2 cents worth......and remember that's all this opinion is worth.
Hey man,
I've been looking to start investing in stocks, and think this company you mentioned is interesting. I'm currently dealing with a couple of disc herniations, so maybe the issue is close to home haha. Anyway, like with all of the topics of discussion on this site a bigger bank roll is always recommended, I imagine. However, I'm rather young (22) and don't have the income to support huge investments like what you've shown from your portfolio. If I was interested in investing in NVIV and wanted to start with the minimum deposit requirement of a site like eTrade, do you think that's even worth it? The company does seem to show promise, based on recent news.
Thanks!
Yes. It's worth it. We have all started somewhere. You should, however, only invest an amount that you are comfortable in losing. Good Luck!

if you don't have the money to invest properly you risk bad results by picking individual stocks. Your best bet is to diversify with funds in a 401k or an IRA.
being a gambler, in my younger days I would invest more in stocks than recommended, and I often got bad results. The typical scenario was, just as I really needed the money and had to withdraw, like after losing my job, that would be the time too that stocks would be way down.

Quote: odiousgambitif you don't have the money to invest properly you risk bad results by picking individual stocks.
Oh I totally get that. What I meant, though, was that I don't have the income to support steeldco's scale of investments. My starting stock investment was my tax return for this year ($500). I hope to use this money to begin to learn the stock market and, if I'm smart and lucky, to make a profit!

Quote: steeldcoI'll be adding SNCR to the portfolio on Monday, presuming of course that there is no early large move due to news being released. My expectation would to exit this issue at around $42.
I found the below from a news clip from Business Wire about SNCR (my most recent addition). It seems that Forbes is a little slow.....
Synchronoss Technologies, Inc. (SNCR), the leader in mobile cloud innovation and software-based activation for mobile carriers, enterprises, retailers and OEMs around the world, today announced its inclusion in the Forbes Fast Tech 25 list of the 25 fastest growing tech companies.
FORBES’ annual Fast Tech 25 list is about finding the firms with superior growth (both past and projected), along with a solid earnings-quality score from Value Line. Forbes evaluated more than 5,000 publicly traded technology companies, looking for profitable companies with a minimum revenue of $150 million and a minimum market value of $500 million. They also assessed firms with sales growth of at least 10% for each of the past three fiscal years and over the latest 12 months.
The final list is ranked by trailing three years of revenue growth. Fifteen companies on the Fast Tech 25 had less than $1 billion in sales over the last year, as well as some large companies with stellar growth such as Facebook, Amazon and Alphabet. Synchronoss which ranked #7, was featured as a company with a three-year average sales growth of 29%
“We are honored to be listed in the top 25 fastest growing tech companies by Forbes,” said Steve Waldis, Founder, Chairman and CEO, Synchronoss. “Synchronoss keeps innovation at the heart of everything we do, and in the ever changing tech landscape, it’s important to evolve and offer creative solutions to provide the highest level of service to our clients.”

Quote: steeldcoI'll be running this month's stock screen over the weekend and again will attempt to find the top 5 candidates to double. Below is a current list of past top 5 picks to double. Several of the past picks are showing awfully nice gains.

By the way, the range of the annualized rate of return for these groups went from a low of 21.35% for the December picks, to a high of 120.11% for the group of 5 in January.
That would make for 25 total stocks at any one point in time. I would be investing less per issue but be more diversified. I'm intrigued with the annualized returns that are being produced. I may rotate 5 in and 5 out on a monthly basis to see what the results might be.

My intention to peg the portfolio size at 25. Therefore, it will contain the last 5 months' of top 5 picks. As a new month is run, I will add the new 5 and remove the oldest 5. Recording the gains or losses made in order to further develop this. This is all being done in attempt to find a systematic way of investing profitably.
Since this month's 5 will put the port at 30, I am going to remove the oldest 5 (from November). The results are as follows:
Screen Run Date | Picks Cost | Picks $ Gain (Loss) | Picks % Gain | S&P Cost | S&P $ Gain (Loss) | S&P % Gain | Picks Vs. S&P |
11/4/2015 | 47.49 | 4.51 | 9.50% | 2110.6 | -19.02 | -0.90% | 8.60% |
So with the closing of these 5 positions I would have beaten the S&P by a good sized margin. I realize this is imperfect in that I am just taking the last closing price. In the real world it would be somewhat different. For now it will suffice for this testing.

Just a brief update. It looks like CSII will be the first one to 100% gains. It is at a 84% gain as of today. I fully expect to hit on at least one of these every 5-6 months.
Quote: steeldcoI'll be adding SNCR to the portfolio on Monday, presuming of course that there is no early large move due to news being released. My expectation would to exit this issue at around $42.
I'm halfway home to getting to $42. It is at $36.61 as I write this.
Now it has matured, has steady revenue, and has plenty of potential to tap it's wealth of users, traffic and data for more revenue. And it's cheaper than ever at 10bn market cap. I likr this price point and feel confident that growth will continue.
This is not a recommendation to buy, and I own shares.

I see where this morning, one of the picks from 04/23, BLOX, has received a takeover offer. Up 20+%. What I am finding very interesting is the number of these picks that get taken over. Since my algorithm includes a measure of undervaluation, I am going to guess that part of the screening process is spot on.
I'm considering 'all in'.
My apologies, in advance.
Pls don't report me to the mgt.

This is having a great day today. The January group of 5, with NMBL up around 25% on the day as I write this is looking phenomenal. One of the 5 picks is up 94% (CSII), a second one (FLDM) of the five is up around 43% and a third one (NMBL) is up around 41%. All in a short 4 month period.
I'm just in 'funds'.
If we have another good day tomorrow, maybe I'll be back where I was 7 months ago.
Maybe
Sigh
