We use chewy as well. The same High protein cat food feed all of our critters except for the turtles. The delivery guy must hate us as well because the cat litter is 25 lb on its own, I'm pretty sure the cat food is a 25 lb bag. I think we do a three or four month supply at once. I use a dolly/ hand truck to cart it all to the garage, I wonder if they use one to get it to my door?

I see the guy on my security system carrying litter to my door regardless of where I am. And yea I feel for him carrying litter to the door.

I still donít see how it makes business sense unless the volume makes sense overall and they have found a way around charging per pound.

No business model I know makes delivering litter makes financial sense.

For people talking about shipping heavy stuff being expensive, in 2019 UPS/FDX/USPS care WAY more about the density of the package than the weight. This is because their trucks always fill up the cargo volume first before even getting close to the max weight on the vehicle.

If you can find heavy dense stuff that does not need to ship in a large box, the negotiated service agreements shipping discounts are much larger than light fluffy stuff.

Thatís why you see all three carriers slowly reducing their dimensional divisor.

I was getting cases of $1 coins shipped to my house twice a week for a year. They were small boxes but weighed about 25 pounds each. My mailman delivered over $500,000 in cash to my house.

That was the good old days when you could get airline miles for having cash shipped to your house.

I ordered 3 plastic wastebaskets
from Amazon last week. They
came in a huge box, 24" by 20"
by 20" high. Weighed nothing.

But it was Amazon local delivery,
so it only mattered to the poor
driver using his own vehicle.
Amazon pays drivers $18 an
hour to use their own vehicles
to deliver packages. I wonder how
many are in an area at one time.
Last week I had 3 different orders
arrive on 3 different vehicles.

Sometime you can see online a
map of where the driver is and
how many stops he has before
he gets to you. I'm always amazed
at how many people order from
Amazon in my area. I wonder if'it's
this way all over the country.

They don't actually bring it to my door since I have a fence "moat" and gate surrounding my courtyard area(sounds a lot fancier than it is). They leave it on the sidewalk just outside, so the camera doesn't trigger that far away.

I have some Amazon horror stories.
Twice last winter they said a package
was delivered and it wasn't. I got
refunds for both. In the spring I
found them in front of the barn
after the snow melted. The lazy
driver had just thrown them from
from his vehicle instead of coming
up to the house.

They take a pic now of the delivered
package and post it on the site.

I had something delivered from Amazon and they took a picture of it being delivered.... Too bad for them it wasn't a picture of my place.

I love amazon.
Bought this baseball net for $41 including delivery opposed to $137. Different brand but it is the exact same thing. Not sure how they can deliver it at a price like that.

Regional warehouses. That's the key to
Amazon free delivery. They just built
one 8 miles from my house. The vast
majority of frequently ordered items
are there. Remember when Bezos
started he didn't make a profit for
a huge number of years? He's doing
it again with these warehouses and
he's crushing it.

It's so successful Walmart is considering
closing all it's stores eventually and
making them warehouses for online
delivery only. Save them a ton on what
gets shoplifted from a store. I don't think
they'll do, it would be a logistical and
PR nightmare. But they're discussing
it.

That worked out for me once. I have a tricky address. Ordered tennis shoes last year and the email said they arrived, they did not. I go thru customer service and they send a door pic. I explain it was not my door. So they replace the order, no muss no fuss. Even give the fast shipping. Next day I come home from work. two boxes at my door! I think a neighbor dropped the second one.

Once I was on my porch and a package flies up and lands. I should have filed a complaint but did not. I also have a door to my basement they sometimes leave packages at, I now note "to side door" but need to order one of those signs about deliver to side door.
