Former Bank Chairman Sentenced for Processing Illegal Online Poker Transactions

28th of June 2012

Sentencing for the former vice chairman of SunFirst Bank in St. George, Utah took place on Wednesday. John Campos was sentenced to 3 months in jail and was stripped of the right to work in the banking industry as a result of the illegal processing of $200 million in online poker transactions.

Prosecutors say that there are six additional defendants who have entered guilty pleas while five others, including the founders and directors of payment processing for Full Tilt Poker and Pokerstars, have fled the country.

Well, they would rather arrest the players, but that is just not allowable politically.
I mean the players are guilty of that most serious criminal offense :

I think it is the Catholic Church, but how could we prove it?

The bank exec got off easy. In fact, all of the Black Friday defendants has gotten off easy. Two of them were probably going to beat their case as they had proven poker was not covered by UIGEA, something Lederer, Ferguson and Furst are doing now in their civil cases. Brent Beckley, who processed payments for Absolute Poker, got a plea bargain for 15-18 months + a $150,000 fine or so but the judge rejected it. We are talking about a company that stole over $50,000,000 and had two insider cheating scandals and he only has to be a relatively small fine.

The govt knows they do not have a case so they are trying to make this go away. Black Friday was nothing more than a political statement and to help clear the way for regulated poker.

I also like the "Breaking New" title for a story from 2 weeks ago.
