Poju Zabludowicz, came in at 31st place in the Rich List for 2010. He was ranked #18 last year. However his calculated net worth remained the same at 1.5 billion pounds.

Poju owns the Plaza, Las Vegas Club, the Western and quite a lot of additional property in the downtown area of Las Vegas.

The Sunday Times list of the mega-wealthy is based on estimates by the editorial office, and accepts foreign nationals who are resident in the UK or persons with very large holdings there. For example media mogul Rupert Murdoch (owner of the newspaper and its colleague The Times) is not on the list, because he resides permanently in New York.

Poju beat out Queen Elizabeth whose net worth was only 290 million pounds. He also beat out Steve Wynn who Forbes estimates is worth only $1.6 billion dollars. [1 pound is = $1.4454 at the present time].

If you see this man walking around Vegas please let him know that he could clean up his casinos a little with just a fraction of that money.

The question is how the heck do these places run at an operational profit? How much does a place like the Western even take in?

Not sure, but I do know that I used to get offers all the time for free rooms (mind you I rarely bet more than $10/hand there, but I would play a lot of hours), but now, I really don't ever see anything. Seems if you could get some people in those rooms, they would gamble more than enough to pay for their stay.

We've discussed him before. I think somebody speculated he bought the Plaza for the land, hoping the city of LV would need it for it for a maglev train station, and then demand a huge price for it.

The Times of London said that at one point he owned over 40% of downtown Las Vegas. He bought the Plaza, Las Vegas club, the Western, and the Gold Spike from Jackie Gaughan, but he also owns a lot of the empty lots and derelict hotels (like the Hotel Nevada), and some of the shops in East Fremont.
