Yes - the rumors are true. The Plaza will be adding a $10/day resort fee on July 24 that includes unlimited wireless internet, bottled water, free parking, coupon book valued at over $250, 24-hour fitness center, wake-up services, in-room safes and free 800/local phone calls.
We've read the comments and understand there are some unhappy guests that will not choose to stay here because of this decision. We are moving forward though and hope that people understand what an exceptional value the all new Plaza offers alongside very affordable room rates!
First they implement that crappy 6:5 blackjack, now resort fees.
Sad. I used to like the Plaza. They lost a customer for life.

They used to charge $10/day for wireless anyway, so for those people it is the same. I suppose it is the concept that is bothersome. When the hotel above the bus station starts calling itself a resort, you wonder what is the problem with just saying they are raising their room prices by $10.
It just sounds like they're saying "We're giving you these things for free now, even though you got them before"
Quote: bigfoot66My buddy stayed there 8/2 on a comp room and was charged a resort fee....
I just received another offer for four complimentary nights and 25 free slot play. The small print says "Must stay a minimum of 4 nights and stay by 10/31/12. Complimentary $10 resort fee included in your free room offer."
I'm not sure if their resort fees are $10 per night and therefore I'll still owe $30. In that case I'll just use my perpetual stay at the Riviera and a forum member can have my room at the Plaza... if they're willing to pay the resort fees.
Quote: bigfoot66So maybe there are truly comped rooms and then comped rooms that you still have to pay the resort fee?
I have no info on the Plaza, but I recently received a promo offer from Station Casinos, presumably based on my having picked up a player's card at Fiesta Henderson during WoVCon][. The promo offered two free nights (Mon-Thur) at either Red Rock Resort or Green Valley Ranch or three free nights (any night of the week, I think) at any of the other places in the chain.
I decided to make use of this promo on my upcoming visit to Las Vegas, even though I have never stayed at any of the Station Casinos hotels. I chose Palace Station because it is closer to the Strip and Downtown than the others -- don't know whether that was a good choice or not.
The promo flyer says, "Resort fee may apply." The Palace Station web site indicates that it does charge a resort fee, so when I called I asked about the word "may", i.e. does a resort fee apply or not. The reservations agent said that sometimes it does and sometimes it does not, depending on the offer. She asked for the offer code, checked it, and told me that the room would be comped for three nights and that there will not be any resort fee charged.
I'll let you guess whether the Plaza would have policies similar to Station Casinos. I have no idea.

If you don't want to rent a car, Palace is probably a good choice.
Of the casinos with 3 night stays, the Sunset Station is probably the best. Red Rock and Green Valley are in a different class, I could argue that 2 free nights at the upmarket location is much better than 3 free nights at one of the downmarket locations. You can always buy a room for your third night.

Except for our first visit together to Las Vegas, my wife and I have always had a rental car. However, I have a bias (which may not be justified) for staying close to the strip -- the only off-strip place we have ever stayed is the Rio, and I considered Palace Station to be similarly "remote". Perhaps I didn't think the promo through thoroughly.
We will be spending ten nights away from home on this trip: 2 nights at Rio for $16 per night, 2 nights in non-casino hotels in California and Arizona for free (reward point nights), 1 night (Saturday) at another spot in AZ for $99, 1 night at Harrah's Laughlin for $50, 3 nights for free at Palace Station, and 1 night on a red-eye flight home. It should be obvious that I am a rather cheap guy when it comes to paying for hotel rooms, even though I like a nice room, so I didn't immediately consider paying for a night in Vegas when I could stay somewhere for free. Maybe a 3-night stay at Palace Station will alter my view on that.
stay in one place when I'm in Vegas for 10 days.
That way I always know where I am in relation to where
I'm staying, I get to know the hotel staff, I feel real
comfortable after a couple days.

I've done both. I agree with Bob, that unpacking ONCE is extremely positive EV for me. The time I moved from Rio to Flamingo, I had to check out of Rio and my room at Flamingo was not ready. Not how I want to spend my precious vacation time....

I have done the move a couple of times and figured out a way to make it a bit easier...I actually add an "overlap" night that we have two rooms. Usually, it is a four day stay with one three night comp and one two night comp. Check-in for the second room and then move the next morning. As long as the hotels are close and free, it is a pretty decent way to go.

It's hassle enough just checking in once. To do it 2 or
3 times is debilitating. I find myself dwelling on it,
dang, we have to move AGAIN tomorrow. No more..
On the other hand, I have reported numerous times on this site that while I really enjoy the Strip, after just a few days I start to feel sensory overload to the point of burnout. I either need to limit my trips to Las Vegas to three or four days or do something that gets me away from town for a while. After decompression, I'm ready to hit the Strip again. I just can't do it for eight or ten days straight.
That's why we planned the excursion to Palm Springs and Laughlin between two periods in Las Vegas. We have done that many times, and it works out well for us. We had planned to spend one night in Palm Springs and three in Laughlin, but the room rates for Friday and Saturday in Laughlin were higher than I have ever seen there. Perhaps it was because this is Labor Day weekend, but the rate dropped down to a reasonable one for Sunday night, so I don't know what it is.
Anyway, I decided to just go on the one-night-stand basis for our time out of Las Vegas and pick up souvenir chips at several other casinos in California and Arizona.

Thats why I always stay Downtown now. Golden Gate
next time, maybe the Plaza. I love staying Downtown,
the Strip is way too nuts.

I don't think you should feel bad about those arrangements, but if possible what I would do is spend your first 2 nights at Green Valley Ranch, and pay for your last three nights at Rio or Palace. If you do some gambling at Green Valley they may even comp you your three days the following week.
It might be nice to start off with 2 days of a little extra pampering. It shouldn't cost you much more in the long run (maybe s little as $16). If you do it on a strictly cash value basis if you go to the web sites and purchase a room at the web discount rate it is $150 for 2 nights at Green Valley Ranch, and $84 for 3 nights at Palace Station. Palace Station is the same price as "The Plaza".
Green Valley King ($75 +/- $2)
Palace Station King ($27.99)
