As some of you may have noticed, I ended up off the grid for a while, so I havn't had chance to ask any of you what you thought of the Luxor review I did. Any comments, criticisms and suggestions are more than welcome.
On a side note, I noticed that the Google Maps picture at the bottom shows the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and not the Luxor Hotel.

If you believe everything you read on Tripadvisor, the Luxor is nothing but a shell, and no better than a fleapit $7 a night motel, with peeling wallpaper and the corpses of hookers underneath the bed.
Trip advisor is going to get the worst of reviews. People that are really pissed off always put in their 2 cents.

That always frightens my wife, we hate it when that happens.

If my wife found a hooker under the bed it would be me needing the funereal director.

it was professional looking and, I would think, up to the standard required and then some. That must have taken some effort. Oh, and did the WoO ask you to hire a model? I was surprised about that.

The photos with the model were the Wizards own. There are a few of my own photos in there. The formatting was also done by the Wizard (or JB, im not sure). The content is more or less all mine, and I did research the links myself. I think once you know that it might be slightly less impressive.

In that case logic dictates you hide the hooker in the closet.
I liked your review.

Glad you are now back on the grid.
I recall having read that review. I recall that at the time I was surprised you had played any slot machines. From the name Croupier I would have expected additional treatment of the roulette wheel including a description of what the play was like at the High Limit room's wheel as compared to the crowds and pace in UK casinos.
If I had gone to the Luxor I would probably have visited that club, LAX, but only for the purposes of writing the review. I'm really not the club hopping type and certainly would never pay three hundred dollars for Bottle Service?

Thanks, Fleastiff.
There are two reasons I did not visit the high limit roulette. One is that in all the high limit rooms I peeked in (including the Luxor, The Mansion being the only exception) There was never a dealer on duty at the High Limit table. I tried at different times throught the stay, but to no avail. I did not ask for the table to be opened as I did not feel my play would warrant the table opening. I also forgot to ask if or when It would ever be open.
That and not going in LAX are both oversights on my part due to inexperience in Travel Writing. They are both good points and I am glad you made them.

I know that people who stay down on that end of the strip are very interested in the pools. You could have said a little more (any singles, is it strictly family). In general people want to know if the place is completely family or are there singles at the Mexican place?
I think it is important to say something about the resorts financial situation (look up on their web site). Luxor is the worst performing MGM resort on the strip except for Circus Circus (by revenue in 2010). Are they more likely to give you a deal? Perhaps the low priced buffet is the deal.
Circus Circus Las Vegas -11.03%
Luxor -9.77%
The Mirage -9.73%
Bellagio -6.57%
Excalibur -5.71%
Mandalay Bay -2.27%
MGM Grand Las Vegas 1.21%
Monte Carlo 9.10%
Did you spend most of your time away from the resort (very important point). It seems as if Mandalay Bay is a little more exciting, and it is a short walk.
MGM Resorts has been trying to strip the LUXOR from it's Egyptian theme since they acquired the property in 2005. I think that they are making the place more bland, but they think they are making it more upscale. Any thoughts on this transformation?
The article in the Las Vegas Sun called Nightclub nightmare costs couple a bundle - Sunday, March 9, 2008 got a lot of attention. The middle aged couple claimed they spent almost $600 in shakedown tips at LAX in addition to the $700 in overpriced drinks and food. They were taking their daughter and her friends out for her 21st birthday.
You have to google the article in order to protect the website from unauthorized links to news articles. The Stephens Media company has been relentless in their lawsuits against links to their website.

Thanks Paco, I really respect you and you writing, and am grateful your experience could help point me in the right Direction. I will incorperate a number of these points, and will be submitting a revised review to the Wizard once this is done.
Correct me if Im wrong but isnt it the Las Vegas Review Journal that is owned by the Stephens Media Group and is currently suing a number of different websites.
I thought the Greenspun Media Group owned the Las Vegas Sun, as well as the Las Vegas weekly, and associated websites..

Stephens Media owns Las Vegas Review Journal. Righthaven LLC has been given the go-ahead by Stephens Media to sue people who put up links or copies of the articles that appear in Stephens Media. So far 140 lawsuits have been filed that limit free speech and bully defendants into costly settlements by threatening $150,000 in damages and the transfer of domain names.
A countersuit was recently filed. See the article Free speech group fights lawsuits vs. news sharers.
Greenspun Media Group still owns the Las Vegas Sun, but cannot afford to distribute the paper anymore. It is now delivered by Stephens Media as an insert of the Las Vegas Review Journal. The website is still their property, and the hard copy often refers to the website for more detailed information. The papers still consider themselves competitiors even though they are distributed together as a bundle.
