Was at the Luxor for the first time during a recent biz trip to Vegas. While I was staying at the Venetian, I got tired of the snooty atmosphere there, and took off for a few other places. Luxor definitely feels a bit "hipper", and I definitely got a kick out of being inside a huge pyramid. While the ameneties aren't nearly as plush as the Venetian/Palazzo axis, I liked the more open casino area, the slightly more resonable table minimums, and also enjoyed the go-go dancers near the table games; don't think I didn't notice they were usually put near the 6:5 games though, Luxor Management :-p

It's a bit paradoxical; on one hand, the Luxor seems hip, but there were times I felt it was trying too hard to be hip without managing to successfully bottle lightning. After all, how seriously can I take a casino that currently has Carrot Top as a headlining act?

The only show I managed to catch was the Fantasy topless review and that was primarily because I had free tickets for it(I work in the ticketing industry). Not bad...the producer is a woman, and it shows in the style, and the class of girls. Not too artificial, but not too "real" either. The awkwardly shoehorned-in black comedian was a hoot though. For what the tickets appear to cost normally though, I'm not sure I could recommend it without reservation.

I didn't get a chance to see the Body Exhibit or the Titanic Museum...which is a shame because they actually captured my interest.

Overall, my impression with the Luxor as an entertainment venue, based upon the 4 hours I was there, is that I might like to actually spend a couple days there as an actual guest, but that afterwards, the shine would probably quickly fade.

Don't sell him short. Carrot Top puts on an excellent show there.

You should book at the Luxor and ask to stay in the Pyramid, if for no other reason than to experience the ride up in one of their "inclinators". I believe there is more entertainment to be had at the Luxor than the Venetian.

Carrot Top was on my todo list in May, but he was dark the night we needed to go. Headed there in Sept. and he is on the list once again. Hope to make it this time. I have heard good things about his show.

Ha ha! Yeah...right after I posted that, and started talking to some friends, they were all "Dude, you didn't see him in The Hangover? He was a riot!" I'm always the last to know...

I wish I had had the time to just try riding the inclinators, just for the experience. And yeah...certainly the Venetian is very plush and a hell of a place to stay in terms of suites (especially when you aren't the one footing the bill) it's very snooty and very much for folks who feel like overpaying for luxury crap. The Luxor was definitely more "fun". Hell, I had a damn better time at the Riviera than the Venetian, and that place has definitely seen better days.

Yeah, wasn't trying to sell the Luxor short, just saying that it probably isn't someplace I'd want to spend a whole week at...but definitely a few days, for sure.

Who amongst all of you are brave enough to go see the Criss Angel beLIEve show and come back to tell the tale? I was reading the review of Viva Elvis and David mentioned the show was lousy, but believe is supposed to be worse and thats hard to imagine. I thought it would be fun to see every cirque show in vegas (all I have left are elvis and believe after my trip next week) but with all the lousy reviews I imagine it would be difficult to go into it unprejudiced or spend the $ knowing its going to be lousy! I also heard Believe was not cancelled because they put too much $$ into the show to cancel it. The Luxor seems like its going the way of a lot of the other MGM properties, downhill. I honestly would not mind if Harrah's bought the Luxor and Mandalay Bay. With the Excalibur doing so well (from what I have read on the forums) I doubt MGM would sell it.

I bet Believe isn't as bad as people say it is. For the right price, you could get a good value on entertainment, I'm sure.
