formerly "Roberta's Steak House" is a fairly inexpensive place to have a steak or sea food.

With an AGC (American Casino Guide) coupon, good Sunday through Thursday, for up to $25 dollars off your bill,(buy one get one free) it's a good value and an alternative to a buffet.

Additional items such as salad or asparagus are a la carte so with a couple of sides and wine it can get up there, but with just the main course , one side and a coke or ice tea you can get out of there for under $30 for two.

Try that on the strip!

I tried the flame in October and it was the best meal I had in Vegas --- and one of the cheapest. My wife loved their Reisling wine and the Bone-In Rib Eye was as good as any I have ever had including Gibsons and Smith and Wollynski (SP?)

Love the bread, and their side dishs easily feed two. An excellant meal at a fantastic price with the 50% off coupons from either the American Casino Guide or the Members Rewards books.

I have a friend who is a high-rolling craps player and focuses his play at the Cortez partly so he can get comps at Flame. That is a pretty good endorsement imo.

My wife and I eat here every year over Thanksgiving. I just checked the menu and the lobster is completely gone! (Surf and turf is now the Filet with crab legs.)

Does anyone know if the double lobster tails are gone for good?? My wife loved them, and it was always a highlight our our trip. If they are gone, my search begins again for lobster in LV (and no -- Red Lobster doesn't count :)

Thanks

What should also be mentioned is that if you have the third or second tier player's club card, and pay with your points, all these prices are slashed in half. It takes 6000 points ($6000 coin-in) to get to the second ("Sapphire") level ($18000 on their best games, though that isn't always the case). So if you pay with your points, you can easily get out for about $17/person, plus tip.

I've found the food there to be a 7 to 8 on a scale of 1-10. The ribeye steak, last June, was excellent.

Here is a nice review using the former name of The Flame "Roberta's"
Quote: Debbie Hall

Debbie Hall of Celebrity Chef Connection

Allow me to begin by stating I am not a food critic. Yes, I have a broadcast show about food and I write about food, but I don’t write about how this dish didn’t have enough salt or that dish had too much garlic. I want to share places that I enjoy, ways to make your dinner parties fun and new food items to try. But this time, I am sharing my opinion in the first person because I am encouraging all of you who read this column to dine at Roberta’s at the El Cortez.

I have lived in Las Vegas for 30 years and I KNOW how people feel about coming downtown. It is one thing for me to try to urge those in Green Valley to try a place in Summerlin, but to mention downtown, well! FORGET IT is most people’s response. But it is easy to go downtown from I-15, US 95 and even 215, there is plenty of security and free parking and this place is worth the trip.

Think of it as an excursion back into time. The El Cortez Hotel and Casino is truly one of the last of the original casinos. They have kept the traditions of customer service with some new ideas. Roberta’s is light, spacious with incredible service, huge portions and reasonable prices. In fact, Roberta’s has won “Best of” in years past and I see why.

I dined with Bill and Terry of Vegas Resource and our meal was an incredible experience. Believe me, the three of us dine out quite a bit and are fortunate to enjoy some of the best Las Vegas has to offer. But all three of us are going on the record as Roberta’s is one of the best we have enjoyed in a long time!

The Panko Crusted Fried Shrimp with Honey Dijon Mustard Sauce is huge and taste of the shrimp exploded with a goodness I have not experienced in a long time.
Bill and Terry had the Shrimp Cocktail that was just as good with generous portions and tangy sauce. Our salads were fresh, filling and mine was topped with anchovies, which I know is an acquired taste but one I have.

I ordered the 20oz Porterhouse Center Cut from the Short Loin with a deep fried lobster tail. The steak just melted in my mouth and was cooked to perfection. The deep fried lobster tail was quite the experience for me since I usually order it broiled. The coating was light and spicy and added to the succulent lobster meat joined with melted butter (so smooth without a single lump). My sides were a big baked potato (okay, I went with tradition) and crisp asparagus with the richest of sauces.

Terry ordered the Filet Mignon broiled to perfection with a smooth creamed corn enhanced by the most delicious cheese sauce I have ever tasted (yes, we all shared). Bill got the Roast Prime Rib with whipped potatoes and more creamed corn.

We can’t forget the dessert which included Strawberry Shortcake, New York Cheese Cake, Chocolate Molten, Chocolate Layer Cake, Flan, Tiramisu and Fresh Seasonal Berries & Cream – NO we didn’t them all! But they all sounded so good, even after our very big meal.

But dining is more than food. We want to thank Manager Ivory Scott and his staff for taking such good care of us. The room is spacious with comfortable seating and nice lighting. There are HD Screens on the walls with the most phenomenal travel videos ever but you can still hold a conversation. This is a find and if you want a wonderful experience, you must go to Roberta’s. Did I mention their wine list? It is quite good and if you are wine drinker, you are certain find that wine to your liking.

I am officially going on record that I LOVE Roberta’s at the El Cortez Hotel and Casino. I know you will if you give it a chance.

we tried this place last trip using a LVA (las vegas advisor) coupon. i had a steak and soft drink and my gf had a salad. the steak was huge and very good, and my gf said that her salad was also very good. the atmosphere was nice and the service was pleasant and whole thing cost $14 with the coupon! i felt like i was robbing the place! of course this isn't an expensive steak house on the strip but with a coupon this is definitely an eating advantage play.

to top it off we didn't even plan on eating there that day. we were planning to try the buffet at the Main Street Station with a bogo coupon but while standing in line i looked at the coupon again and realized that it wasn't good for that day. it was a last minute idea to try the Flame steakhouse but i was only dressed in a t-shirt, shorts and slippers and wasn't sure if we could get in. when we got to the restaurant i stepped through the door to take a look inside and the hostess asked if i wanted a table for two! ah, hmm.....ok. i did feel a little uncomfortable as most of the patrons were better dressed than us, but the service was still pleasant. a couple at the next table asked how i liked the steak and i said it was very good and they commented on how they like the place and go there on a regular basis. the woman even suggested i try what she had and offered me some as she was taking the rest home in a doggie bag. i politely declined, but it was nice of her to offer.

Since reading the Trouble Sleeping? thread yesterday, I thought I might as well get up!

This Flame Steakhouse thread has been on my mind since reading the restart of it in yesterdays forum. Being that my birthday is on Halloween, there was a lot of reminiscing going while playing Deuce's Wild VP at the local Native American Casino and avoiding trick or treaters.

I have fond memories of The Flame from the summer of my first visit to Las Vegas in 1982. I had been recently commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps, traveling from Buffalo to Las Vegas to relocate my girlfriend at the time with her parents who lived in the City, then continue on to Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio for Officers Basic Training. During a weekend that summer, I flew up to Las Vegas to visit her, for a little R&R! Her Father suggested we go to The Flame for dinner. Being the suave, romantic Butter Bar at the time, we went and had a wonderful dinner. Steak, wine, atmosphere of Las Vegas and the sign....

If I'm not mistaken, it was on the east side of the strip near Sahara or Desert Inn. It's gone now. Here's the address I found while searching for it on Google: Flame, The* - 1243 E Sahara Av - $$$ (Closed Sun/Mon) - 735-4431

Anyways, that girlfriend became my wife, the mother of my 2 beautiful daughters and my ex-wife. Her father BTW was from a long line of family bookmakers and relocated to Vegas in the 70's to escape the heat. He was a true degenerate. A Poker Dealer at the old Showboat and the Las Vegas Hilton. He kind of showed me the basics and sparked my interest in gaming. When visiting, we'd make the "rounds" every day. First to all the Sports Books to check the morning lines, maybe a little VP or craps along the way. We'd go Downtown and have a hand sliced hot roast beef sandwich in the back of Binion's........then back to place bets and dash back to the house so he could be to work by 4PM. He said he had to make $100 a day to "cover" everything. This was his daily grind. What a life! He never had a pot to piss in and still doesn't to this day.

Back to the thread, The next time I saw the sign, since 1982, was about 5 years ago while staying for my first time Downtown. I was visiting with my new wife and MIL, we were staying at the Four Queens on a junket from Tampa. It was my first time seeing the Fremont Street Experience and the revamped Fremont Street. The last time I had been there was when traffic was allowed in the 90's

Then I was searching the Downtown Hotels, preparing for our visit this past August and saw that there was a Flame Steakhouse at the El Cortez! Could it be anything resembling the old place?

Well, we had dinner there mid-week. It was pretty good...nothing exciting. The place was nice, service good. It just felt like they were trying TOO hard. I had the Bone-in Ribeye, my wife had some kind of super salad. We split Steak Fries and Asparagus. A bottle of Old Vine Zin. It was around $100. My wife felt "a little" uncomfortable with the overall El Cortez atmosphere/vibe, maybe the whole East Fremont "Experience"

To finish up and make an apology for my droning on, the place we've been enjoying on our yearly Downtown stays the past few years has been Triple George Grill. The overall atmosphere, service and food quality is outstanding. I would suggest that you give it a try, it feels like an upscale locals place...very relaxed and cozy. They have excellent grilled meat and fish selections that are delectable. Old fashioned, cocktails made by a REAL bartender and changing daily specials. The manager I spoke with tells me they are part of a local chain called Timbers, if I remember correctly.

Maybe I should try and get some sleep now............
I don't know everything but I know a lot.
