I ate a white castle burger once in my life. It was Memorial Day or 4th of July or Labor day at El Cortez, where they give out WC burgers for free. I felt like I overpaid (free). It was disgusting. I can't imagine people willing to pay for that crap much less stand in line for hours to pay for that crap.

I guess it's something you get used to, although I've never thought that they were bad or gross. I grew up with one a few miles from home, and my Dad brought them home once every couple weeks. Once I was old enough to drink, it was almost automatic to go there on the way home after the bars.
I still grab lunch or dinner there 1-2x a month. I'm curious to try the new Veggie slider, but haven't yet.
that being said, I won't be going to the new one on the Strip when I visit in July, since it's old hat to me. I WILL be hitting In & Out Burger for the first time ever though!
Quote: DRichI am still saying it will be the highest grossing fast food location in the whole country.
Anyone know what IS the highest grossing? My guess is the McDonalds right on 42nd St. near 8th Ave.
WC by the way has great burgers that go down real smooth. Get half a dozen and you will smile.

I am not a big fan but I didn't grow up with it.
They do have a local nickname of "Murder Burgers" because the heartburn afterwards can be excruciating.
It's a trade-off lol.
They are the cheapest burger in town. A single square goes for 72 cents!!!
In the seventies it was 26 cents.
there was a similar chain that operated for quite a while in the DC/Baltimore area - Lttle Tavern - small hamburgers and cheeseburgers
their beef wasn't high quality but their rolls were soft and very good - and the way they topped it off with grilled onions, mustard and ketchup made it very tasty
they're gone - I miss them a little bit
.

I forgot about that. Yes, the heartburn. I don’t know any other burger that does that.
I don't care how many lies you've been told, size does matter. Can you really call it the cheapest, if it's also the smallest? I guess you can if you really want to. I doubt most people just have one.Quote: darkozAs an east coaster I grew up with white castle and find the burgers delicious.

I really don't consider White Castle burgers actual burgers, so if you're comparing them to burgers, they just don't hold up to a real hamburger. I say the same when talking about Mcdonald's, technically they are hamburgers, but Mcdonald's should really just be its own special category, as should White Castle.
Once in a while, I'm in the mood for some White Castle, but I can't say that I'm a big fan of White Castle, however, I do wish I had some right now, it sounds good.
It's amazing the one thing that kills your stomach is WC and not the slummy rat-infested ground cooked meals you eat in back alleyways during your travels.Quote: PokerGrinderI just remember them not tasting good and killing my stomach. Not to mention it wasn’t cheap at all.

The kids seemed disgusted just being inside the restaurant and waited for me at the gift shop across the street.
I ordered a regular, cheese slider, and a fish slider.
Back at the hotel, I sliced up the beef sliders and we all gave them a meh rating. But I'm certain they gave me a chicken slider instead of fish (they're both $1.99 surprisingly). Based on the texture and (nondescript) taste, I really hope it was chicken.
Quote: TigerWuYou can get frozen White Castle burgers at most grocery stores now. Whenever I have a craving that's what I have to do because there are no White Castles where I live.

My wife likes the frozen White Castle burgers but had the in store product. In her mind the frozen White Castle burgers met he expection of a small frozen burger but the in store product was horrible because she expected so much more from a restaurant. The company I worked for owned the Las Vegas stores and I ate way too many of them for free and still never thought much of them.
Some people love grease-filled soggy buns.
Anytime I get a FF burger or chicken I have to dig in as soon as possible before the sogginess sets in. I can't ever take FF burgers or chicken sandwiches home to eat. I can't stand smashed buns either.
Quote: ChesterDogI enjoy watching the movie Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, especially for one mistake the pair make. They live in Hoboken, NJ within about three miles of the Jersey City White Castle, but they drive over a hundred miles to South Jersey in search of the restaurant. Of course, they could be excused for their mistake since they were so stoned.

If I recall correctly, the reason given for them driving to THAT Cherry Hill location was because it was Open 24 Hours and the first White Castle they THOUGHT was Open was changed to the Burger Shack with Animal Semen as the Special Sauce. The Drive Thru attendant played by Over Actor Anthony Anderson informed them the next closest location that would be open was the Cherry Hill one.
