Expect big crowds on Tuesday and probably long lines every day.
They're as bad as they can be without being disappointing.

OH SH--
was my first thought upon reading this topic. Love Whitecastle. Ate a ton of that shit in college. I'm actually jealous of the current students at my former institution of higher learning. When I was there, the closest Whitecastle was about an hour's drive. We would drive it occasionally and everyone would chip in for a few crave cases. Now they have one right in town. Whippersnappers!
Anyway, I'll definitely hit this up next time I'm in Vegas.
Rock. I'll actually be at Harrah's on Th/Wed and can partake of this... er... delicacy for the first time.

I don't know of anywhere in Las Vegas that offers 100x odds on craps, if that was what you are referring to. Casino Royale dropped it a couple of years ago. Best is 20x at Casino Royale, Main Street Station, and Sam's Town.

Casino Royale brought back the 100x odds. There was a thread about it somewhere...confirmed by at least 2 folks.

As has been said, they brought it back. I can't personally confirm, but the resources available are believable.

I don't know if it was a dedicated White Castle (it may have been an Orange Julius), but Berkeley had a restaurant just south of the UC campus that was selling White Castle burgers in the late 1980s.
Not a fan of them - I don't like onions on my burger.

M-I-Z...? I just ate it when I went back home when I was going to school there...lol

I have...in Vegas of course on Dean Martin. Worst burger I've had in years. Fries sucked too. I didn't get it "animal style" which may be part of the problem, but considering I hate mustard, I don't see how I would like it that way either.
Yes, yes, however variety is the spice of life. Now you just have to convince future GFs/ BF's (whichever you prefer ) of that and your all set.Quote: RSWhen people talk about how great white castle is, the first thing I think of is, "Have they never been to In N Out before?"

Nope.
Long line-- I didn't verify it myself, but when my dealer got back from a break, he said it was curled around to the back of the building.
What are prices usually like at a White Castle (and if anybody got in to check, this one)?
Quote: VenthusSo I was just there for the grand opening.

I believe the combo that included 4 burgers, fries and a drink was $7.99. The prices are definitely higher than at other White Castles but i guess that is expected as all restaurants on the strip are more expensive.
I believe I said this in another thread, but I think this will be the highest grossing fast food location in the country.

Found a price list to baseline "normal" prices: http://www.fastfoodmenuprices.com/white-castle-prices/
It doesn't look like they're equipped to handle the kind of traffic I'd expect. If they're always going to have a line, that'd do awful things to potential profitability.

My guess is the line dies down after the novelty wears off. White Castle has a certain kind of nostalgic appeal to those who grew up in the midwest/east, but honestly there's nothing worth waiting in line for about their food. I realize I say this having already mentioned my glee earlier in this thread...it's just one of those things you get a craving for occasionally.
I think most of the line is probably people from the west who have heard about it and never been there. "Oh! White Castle, we have to try that!"
It was kind of by accident. I was driving home and intended to stop by the usual gas station to get some supplies. When I walked in I was totally confused. I walked out and realized I wasn't at the right gas station.
So I walked back in, still in a daze, and bought a drink and I saw a box in the freezer area that had white castle on it. So I bought them.
I just wolfed down 2 of them puppies. Not as bad as I expected (I mean come on, they are from the East coast, aren't they?).
Quote: beachbumbabsBeing in line at a White Castle was always part of the experience, especially after the bars let out.
...Is that an endorsement or a threat? XD
Checking in about an hour ago, at least the line is inside the building now.
Edit: Oh god, no, it isn't. It's still halfway down the alley. They just broke the line into segments to avoid blocking traffic.
Quote: djatcI showed up to WC but gave up after there was a line going outside the casino, then another line from outside the door to the corner street, then another line from the corner street to the end. I am not one to give up on food but I had to go to Ellis Island instead.
They have a delicious IPA at EI.
I told you white castle is bad.
Time to eat Del Taco fish tacos. Last time those assholes put the lime INSIDE the taco. I drunkenly didn't notice (well wouldn't have sober, either). Long story short I'm about halfway through this heavenly taco when I realize there's half a slice of lime in my taco and I already bit and swallowed the other half. Was thinking that last bite sure had a lot of Rhine and tasted kinda limey. Those things got a weird texture, too. Hope it doesn't happen this time. Wish me luck.

Well, I'm disappointed. If you look at pics 6-8, they have a "small" work kitchen and are doing it the hard, labor-intensive way that's going to take much longer. She could only cook about 20 sliders at a time the way it looks there, and that's less than 1 family's order.
In Minneapolis, (though it was about 20 years ago I was last there; could have changed, but the place was built in the 50's), the White Castle had a long, glass-fronted belt-moving grill, with big deep fryers against the wall behind. As people ordered their sliders, the meat got loaded on one end and went thru heat elements above and below, a middle person put bun tops on the meat and bottoms (pre-loaded with chopped onion) on the belt as it continued to cook in steamed heat under another set of hoods, and the person at the end had pre-opened boxes to flip the sliders into. Behind that line, the fryers kept going with fries coming up. The line paralleled the long kitchen, which was open to the dining area, and you ordered at one end, then kind of walked with your food, which took less than 3 minutes. At the far end there was a drink pourer (fountain soft drinks only), and then the cashier totaled up your tab and handed you bags of hot, fresh food.
It was a big deal when they agreed to offer cheese on the sliders. They sold one meal, and sold it all day and all night long. You wanted condiments other than onions, go over to the condiment bar and get them yourself. You didn't want onions, you could pick them off. You wanted something besides sliders, fries, and a coke? Well, there's the McD's down the street....
Sliders then were 39 cents, or 3/1.00, and that was 1993. (I'm kind of blown away by the Vegas pricing; talk about a concession fee!) When I lived there in the early 80's, sliders were 19 cents each. So you saw a whole lot of poor people, homeless, bar crowd, anybody looking for cheap eats. The line was always long, but always moving. And the people watching was priceless.

I've never seen the conveyor system you described. All the WCs in the NY/NJ area that I've seen have the griddle system as pictured in the Vegas opening shots you mentioned.
HOWEVER, they all have multiple cook stations, and each cook station has two of those griddles. The counter is designed so it's easy to watch the cooking process. Somewhat fascinating too, particularly for kids.
In honor of this thread (or maybe because of it), I had lunch at WC today. While there, I asked and was told the griddle can cook 30 sliders simultaneously. Looking again, they are also doing 30 at a time in LV. But I bet they have more than the typical three cook stations!
Quote: BozYou didn't settle for the $1.99 Hot Dog instead??
There's been a price hike on that too-- the first number was definitely a 2. I'll check the exact number when I go try WC-- I mean, stare at the line and give up.

I can remember back in the '60s when they were $.08.
They also had a car-hop service. You could order and eat in your car.
It was always fun to go there on the weekends when all the bars and clubs closed. It was entertaining watching drunk people order in one line and then going to another line to pick up their order. Often when a couple ordered, the guy would make his girl wait in line while he went to a table and passed out!
There once was a White Castle in the AC boardwalk. For some reason it closed after a few years.
Yes, you got it. Micro-roller joint between Harrah's & Venetian, across the street from the volcano & pirate ship.Quote: VenthusCasino Royale is the tiny place on the strip, right?

Quote: mcallister3200I just don't get it. White castle burgers are so gross. And I'm not one of those people that says all fast food is gross. They serve free white castle burgers over lunch at El Cortez on Thursdays. I find it pretty difficult to pass on free food, so I've had them a couple times when playing my 1500 points for the month. I feel like they ruined the rest of my day both times. I imagine the feeling of eating 6 tiny white castle burgers=the feeling after attempting the mcnugget challenge.
I wish i could unread this. I think you just ruined white castle forever for me.

How many craps tables do they have now?
+1. Back in my rock concert days we would always stop on the way home at the hopple st exit just north of downtown Cincy to fill up on white castle. It was the only one in the area (that I knew of). Now there is a glut of them 60 or so miles north and I hardly ever go now.Quote: AcesAndEightsMy guess is the line dies down after the novelty wears off. I know In-N-Out off of Tropicana is always jampacked. I'm wondering how well one would do on the strip.
Another good (FF?) place in vegas that's growing is Farmer brothers. They have a big menu with.. soups with brad bowls, many sandwiches, wraps, salads, big juicy burgers, fries, made to order breakfasts, chicken, fish and chips,
burgers run 4.50 to 6.50 for a half pond double with the works(including avocado)
They constantly send emails for free double cheese burgers and other stuff.
A new one is opening on Charleston and Decatur where that Original pancake house was, that burnt down. Grand openings they usually give away the free $6.50 burger.
Last time me and my GF got 2 shared one and gave the other to a homeless guy.

I'd have to look at other restaurants' numbers before agreeing. Easily will be the top grossing WC in the country though.
