Quote: JamieVI recently got an offer for a comped flight to Laughlin for two through Total Rewards. I wanted to know if anyone has booked this offer and what can I expect if I choose to take the offer. Thanks.
Just a comment on the business plan.
There are 19 "little" casinos on the strip with 11,000 slot machines (Ceasars casinos would include Imperial Palace and Bill's Gaming Hall)
{"little" defined as <$6M month for gaming)
There are 10 casinos in Laughlin with 8,300 slot machines
The slots in Laughlin make more money than the "little" casinos on the Strip despite fewer machines.
From Ceasars Inc prospective it is often more effective to take the slot players to Laughlin, where the greater walking distances mean they spend more time at the Harrah's property.
Harrah's Laughlin (1,561 rooms) has a higher gaming revenue than the Imperial Palace (2,640 rooms) in the center of the strip despite having a thousand fewer rooms.

I never booked an offer to Laughlin, but I did do a free flight to Atlantic City...
If it's anything like what I did, Total Rewards isn't really the booking agent; they go through a junket service who will give you a rundown of how everything works. There will probably be about 2-4 types of groups: 1) TR customers, 2) Local customers who paid to fly out, 3) Gamblers who are "recruited" by the junket, and 4) Special interest groups (like a poker club). At any rate, they will provide you with the expectations of how to get that "free" offer in the future.
The AC expectations were VERY high... $50 minimum on BJ for 4 hours per day, $1 slot play with average of $3 bets for 4 hours per day, Roulette $25 per bet for 4 hours per day, and carnival poker games ranged from $15-$100 for PGP. I'm not that high of a roller, so I did not get the offer again. However, they didn't hound me for not betting that much either, so it was one free vacation that I remember fondly.
I imagine Laughlin will be a bit lower than that, but expect to be asked to bet green chips. If you book through the TR center, you're already an established CET player and it will be like any other casino stay where they won't bug you at all for not playing, but you won't get nice future offers either.

My parents received a similar offer about a year ago and took the trip. They had a great time.
The mostly play slots and a little blackjack.
They said their only regret is that they didn't walk out and go play at the other casinos.
I do remember them saying the bus takes you a back way to the casino, so you don't see all the other properties nearby.

Harrah's Laughlin is not on the Riverwalk, so it takes more effort to go to the other places. You have to take a shuttle bus, or walk along the road.
The "back way" is just easier, I don't think the shuttle bus is being sneaky.

Don't forget, the Wiz wrote a lengthy article about Laughlin recently: https://wizardofvegas.com/articles/laughlin/
I created the map that is included in that article. Click it for the large version.
I think this map is a little deceptive in that it makes all the casinos look more-or-less equally distant. While that may be true, Paco is right that the walk from Harrah's to River Palms is not easy. As this satelite photo shows, the space between the other casinos are either parking lots or smaller businesses. I.E. They are developed in some way.
The space between Harrah's and River Palms is barren undeveloped wasteland.

As far as the bus taking the "back way" to Harrah's, It's obvious that means taking Thomas Edison Dr rather than Casino Dr. It looks like it's maybe 1/2 mile longer, but since it goes thru less developed land, it's probably quicker.

Depending on traffic on Casino Drive, Edison is usually a couple minutes faster by car. I assume the same is true for the bus - maybe even more so, since the bus would accelerate less quickly than I do in my rental when leaving the lights on Casino Dr.
Yes. You fly directly into Bullhead City, Arizona.Quote: AyecarumbaDoes the Laughlin Airport accomodate mid-sized jets, or is the trip actually a flight to Phoenix or Las Vegas, connecting to a small plane for the last leg to Laughlin?

Laughlin has a 7500' asphalt runway, so it can handle full size narrow body jet aircraft. It has charter and seasonal service. You don't have to change to a regional plane.
BTW John Wayne airport in Orange County has only a 5700' runway, and they handle over 8 million passengers per year. Since 1997 with the Boeing 737-600 they only need 5250' of runway.

Rent a car in Laughlin and drive to LV. It's a fun drive, and LV is only about 100 miles away.

You can't have too much runway. Ask any pilot who ever made a landing...
Anwyay, as smaller jets get more fuel efficient you see them undertaking ever longer fligths. There was a time when a 5 hour flight would require a wide-body jet. these days you can go further than that on a B-737 or an A-320. Not to mention the B-757 filled the distance gap long ago... Wide bodies are used almost exclusively for transoceanic or transcontinental flights, like from South America to Miami or Mexico.
Of course, there was also a time when a DC-8 or a B-707 was deemed fit for transatlantic flights <shudder>. And I don't even want to think of Pan-Am's old, old amphibious planes...

Why is Laughlin awful? (for the 14 years I spent in Vegas, I never did anything but drive by a couple times)

Harrah's Laughlin has the best marketting promotions that I have ever seen. Sign up for club, play a lot of video poker handle in one day and don't play anymore with your card in after that. They will send you the world. I have cashed in $4400 in free play in the last six months on a theo loss of $300 for my one day of play.
