"all the extra weight"? The guy has a bit of a gut but he is not obese by any stretch.
I am curious to know if 1 cig every 5 min is his normal pace or if it had something to do with the contest.

Smoker's usually gain weight after quitting. Does the weight come from increased appetite, lower metabolism, other???

I think it's because the smoker just replaces smoking with eating...and keep in mind how many cigarettes a day a smoker normally smokes. The replacement calories add up.
How about a new policy; nobody is allowed to "officially" attempt the challenge until they can do at least 50.

It's relevant because the stomach has no place to expand into. He might actually be obese or close. You might not think so, and I'm worse off than him a bit, but it's easy being obese. I wouldn't use BMI for anything. It's a completely discredited measure that doesn't take things like muscle mass into account.

Muscle may have benefits, but the extra weight still stresses a lot of the organs. I think it's a truth we don't want to believe.
