It's really not a surprise that the New Year's Eve fireworks show along the Las Vegas Strip has been canceled this year. After all, you couldn't have 300,000 people standing shoulder to shoulder during Covid. Next to be canceled are the traditional casino parties.

Most casino parties are held in ballrooms with as many as 500 or even 1,000 guests sitting at tables of ten with either buffets or waiters serving them. There is usually entertainment, bands and dancing. So there's no way these will be allowed.

No fireworks on the Strip and no New Year's Parties... so why would anyone bother to go to Vegas?

I can answer that: they won't go. And it will be a big blow to the Vegas economy. New Year's Eve is one of the few nights of the year when all 150,000 or so hotel rooms are sold out. And it's the one night of the year when rates on a Strip hotel room can jump from $300 to more than $1,000. It's also a big time for spending in restaurants and in the casino and for air and ground transportation-- and this year it won't be happening.

Now there are alternatives to New Year's Eve parties. Some casinos give to their "invited guests" gifts such as electronics and free play of as much as $500 or $750. Perhaps that's what will happen this year. But will that be enough to bring in the players when in the past there might have been a special show with Celine Dion or Elton John?

My guess is there won't be Super Bowl parties at the casinos either. These "big game" parties can be just as big as the New Year's Eve parties. But they are usually buffets. They can't be held either because of Covid. Another weekend of big losses.

I thought the virus was going to magically disappear, like a gift from heaven. I have it on good authority that the virus will expire on November 4th, so all this talk about NYE or the Super bowl is just poopie talk. Liberate Las Vegas!!!!!!!
The difference between fiction and reality is that fiction is supposed to make sense.

There will be fireworks at the Plaza this year. Possibly at other downtown locations too.
I invented a few casino games. Info: http://www.DaveMillerGaming.com/ ————————————————————————————————————— Superstitions are silly, childish, irrational rituals, born out of fear of the unknown. But how much does it cost to knock on wood? 😁
