Not everybody is living in primitive squalor at Burning Man.

Nobody invited me into that tent when I was there. To be honest, I think it violates the Ten Principles, in particular the one on radical self-reliance.

Then again, maybe I'm just jealous. I slept in a dusty tent.

Principles are only for the plebes. The organizers have made that very clear thru their actions.

For some. Everyone goes for different reasons and what they get out of it may not be what they came for.

I've been enjoying myself all week watching the Burning Man web cam. Looks pretty windy and dusty at the moment.

I've watched this many times since you posted it. Every time it's different of course, but every time I look at it I think "Thank God I never went to that".

Everyone is different of course, but I suspect that had I gone I would have left after the first day.

I just got back from a few days in Prescott AZ, where I spent much time watching the web cam, including the burning of the man and temple the last two nights. The two people I know who went are either on their way back and one is staying late to help take down her camp. I am eagerly awaiting their stories.

I am more motivated to go next year. After the fiasco this year, I think I'm going to have have a more modest plan for 2020. First, I'll get a ShiftPod and stay in that.

No stress about renting a RV or trailer nor getting there. People who travel light can take the Burner Express, which has privileges to enter another way without a line. Also thinking of getting active with the Las Vegas burners.

I'm still taking names of anyone seriously interested.

My Burning Man friends have returned. One of them left early, saying she didn't know the people she was with very well. Your experience at Burning Man will depend a lot on who you go with.

The other two had a great time. They remarked it was a more emotional year than the previous one, with lots of crying.

One thing to cry about is I loaned them one of my bicycles and it got stolen. The other one also had a bicycle stolen (that didn't belong to me). They remarked they heard other stories of theft there this year.

Why bring a bike to the Playa when you can just borrow someone else's?

There is most likely a disordinate amount of people with the "what's yours is mine mentality there." Are you sure it was stolen? Maybe someone just used it to pedal across the Playa and left it to the "community pool", or some other similar hipster rationalization.

Which kind of makes one wonder. How many people secure there stuff at that thing? Obviously you can't chain a bike to sand. But do people chain wheels together and what not? Padlock tent zippers? Make sure the RV is secured?

In some Burning Man advice videos, they refer to bike theft as "borrowing without asking." It is entirely possible they do abandon "borrowed" bikes somewhere else. However, I still say if you take something that doesn't belong to you, it's stealing whether at Burning Man or not and will call it at such.

There are lot of bike racks there, especially at official things like the portable toilets. However, at private camps there often aren't and if they are doing a party or something bikes will be strewn all over the place, creating a problem. Bike racks or not, many people don't lock them. I would strongly advise locking a bike there, especially a valuable one.

Thank You! Keep those burners away from the Reno area they freaking ruin everything when they come thru here. Hope it’s permanent. Why don’t they hold it down south near Vegas like they did one year.
