Lead by John Mayer, the surviving members of the Dead (except for Phil Lesh, who is doing other things) are touring starting Oct. 31st, and will be doing a couple shows at MGM in late November.
1978, one of the worst experiences
of my life. The crowd was a bunch
of drugged out airheads. I couldn't
get out of there fast enough.
Quote: MrVWhile it may be true that "there's nothing like a Grateful Dead concert," this group is the next best thing.

No tickets will be sold for their Nov. 7th show at Madison Square Garden. The band is giving away 10,000 tickets to 5,000 lucky fans. Details are on their web site.
I'm not a big fan but have seen a few shows and thoroughly enjoyed them. I guess it's how you look at life.
Saw the Grateful Dead over 100 times
Saw the 50'th anniversary shows in Chicago
This looks like an interesting band
Its disappointing that bass player Phil Lesh is not in the band.
Phil was a big part of the overall Grateful Dead sound
I'm waiting to hear the recordings from the upcoming shows before I judge
Some are not amused

The Hitler video was very funny.
The 2nd video, the China Cat Sunflower transition into I Know You Rider was a bit rough. Hopefully they will tighten it up. Some of my favorite China/Riders were from the Europe 72 tour
Memorable!
Somehow the atmosphere / ambiance at MGM arena just won't be the same.
I can just see it now: Katy Perry in front of the stage, pretending she's a "spinner," hair, makeup and bustier in perfect order.
Quote: MrVI only saw the Dead twice, both times at Autzen in Eugene.

Omg
Autzen stadium was my favorite place to see the Grateful Dead
Was an east coast deadhead but always made the effort to go see them in Eugene
Eugene would get the hot shows and that's why we went
It was always a gamble in the 90's if the Dead would be on.
Spring tour 90 was the last hot tour, every show was hot
summer 90 to 1995, band was batting about .333. about a 1/3 of the shows would be hot
Eugene had a rep for hot shows because all the bands friends moved up there due to cheap land
Eugene shows, they played for their family and close friends which generally meant a hot show
Also Eugene was rare in that camping was allowed around the stadium so great vibes
Eugene shows were performed under the sun, band would take the stage about 4pm, playing under a blazing sun
Loved it. I got tired of seeing the boys in huge inside dark venues such as Madison Square or the Spectrum
Seeing the band perform under the sun with no light show was heaven for me. Just music.
Saw 8/21/93 and 8/22/93. Amazing shows. The China>Rider was right up their with the ones performed on the 72 Europe tour
I clearly remember a hippie girl turning to a friend after the show and said "Eugene has the magic"
Yup, always magical Grateful dead shows at Autzen
Saw them again at Autzen 6/17/94 6/18/94 6/19/94. 3rd show of that run blew me away, The Scarlet>Fire was hot
Autzen Stadium was one of the best places on the planet to see the Grateful Dead
I am quite impressed.
The Band sounds great.
I like John Mayer's guitar playing.
I highly recommend seeing this band.
The great thing is tickets are real cheap.
Scalpers thought there would be high demand due to the recent Fare Thee Well shows in Chicago.
Well, this band should be on the Theater circuit rather then the arena circuit.
Therefore no sell outs due to huge arenas and scalpers taking around 50% loss on stubhead some venues.
The Grateful Dead are gone but this is a good substitute
Tickets cheap and plentiful :-)
MGM arena Thanksgiving weekend.
Quote: MrVToo bad Phil's health issue preclude him from joining the group.
True but Oteil Burbridge has been doing a fabulous job
He's been holding down the low end for the Allman Brothers for years and doing a great job
The Dead are lucky to have him.
Been so impressed by this band, just booked my trip to see them at the Forum in LA Dec 30 and 31 :-)
