Oh, I may have flagged some of his posts. I meant that it was unfortunate that he felt he had to act the way he did to make his points. I defend a lot of suspended members but I got nothin' here. Sorry, Son.

Not the way I see it. The term "wingnut" has never led to a suspension when used against a conservative. A poster here said he "enjoyed seeing a wingnut bite the dust" to B9 being banned. So I see it as either:
1. It is not an insult and allowed
2. We need to clarify the rules and ban the term
If I missed where it was banned, please direct me.
Apologies to GWAE

I think you're splitting the wrong hair. That comment was made about B9 only after he was no longer a member of the forum. Once a member is permanently removed from the forum against his/her will, the protection against insults no longer applies. Suspensions, on the other hand, do not result in removal from the forum and the rules do "protect" suspended members.
opinion than an insult.
Quote: GWAEI miss having the links for the offense in the chart. What thread was the suspension from?
It's kind of a faff updating the list and I dread it. I'm usually wanting to do it and move on, skipping the "link to offense" post like Wiz usually does. My apologies.
Quote: 1BBIt's unfortunate that Sonovabish got suspended but he had to have seen it coming. What he most likely didn't see coming was 14 days for a second offense especially if he looked at other suspensions of late.
I saw all the railing on old folks etc last night. Was hoping it was an extremely acute condition that he would get over quickly. Seeing that he was still telling people to shut their mouths when I woke up... kinda have to act before it spreads.
Re: two weeks, just following protocol. I generally do try to find a reason to lessen or, preferably, not suspend at all, but I wasn't finding it there. His tirade on Fox is fair game, hell, I probably agreed with half he said on that front. Railing on old people... not as necessary and probably offensive. Not offensive on a level to earn two weeks, but certainly against, at the very least, "acting like a gentleman". When it continued and became personal, action is necessary.
I guess I just didn't see where he was "forced" into lashing out. He just seemed to be escalating further and further of his own accord. I could be wrong, but that's what I saw. And it's hard for me to give leniency when I feel it was a conscious choice.
At RonC - In GWAE's defense, he didn't create the thread. He just got credit as this is a split off thread, and the first post in the split gets the credit for creation.
And finally, the "wingnuts". Sure, it's technically an insult, at least to me. Of course, I'm probably over compassionate and find a lot of things ungentlemanly, even stupid stuff that many accept. So far, "wingnut" seems to serve to identify teams, and hasn't lead to great offense or escalating vitriol, so I guess I ignore it (as many others seem to do). I kind of plan to continue to do so, provided it doesn't escalate, because I try to eschew authoritarianism.
Quote: RonCA little bit of a sneaky play there--make a controversial thread and then block it. Not sure if I think that is a strong play or a weak one.
Anyway...we can argue here a lot and even call each other "wing nuts" without it getting the way the responses made by the suspendee did in that thread. You could make an argument that the writing was meant to pus buttons so someone on the other side would say something bad...
huh? I didn't start it. I argue enough about the damn news channels with a good friend of mine, no need to re hash all that on here as well.

Most of you peeps who have been here some time know I would not make such a comment on "accident." I made it in the same vein as Limbaugh made "Barrack the Magic Negro." In both cases, it is to parody what a liberal has already said. And to perhaps start discussion.
I hope that was an oversight, and that's not going to be precedent as an acceptable way to insult someone. That'd be two workarounds Sonuvabish has come up with, the first one being "Your post resembles that of a (insult here)...but you're fine."

Yes, faff. Face turns British on the weekend:-)
A discussion? Surely that's not what's supposed to happen on an online chat board? I suppose this method of conversation starting is not unlike Evenbob's instance on using the term Chinamen even though he knows there are members here who find the term deeply offensive...

Maybe similar. (FWIW I do not see why "Chinaman" should be offensive, it is descriptive if an older term.) I think of it similar to the martial arts where you use your opponent's size and momentum against him. The term "wingnut" was made up to be derogatory. So when it is directed at your side you can either be a crybaby and complain or you can take another route. I choose another route.
Quote: rdw4potusYes, faff. Face turns British on the weekend:-)
Yeah, too much BBC Top Gear =D "Faffing about" goes over better than "f#%$ing around", just as "going full chat" is more acceptable than "hauling balls". I have colorful language and a child at home; the Queen's English lets me vent properly ;)

The "News Channel Bias" thread was split from another that I can't recall. Your post was the first in the new spin off, so you get credit for creating it. It's just how the software works, I assume.

Indeed it was an oversight. I haven't read that thread until just now. I suppose now is a good time to remind everyone that infractions like this can be reported, as we aren't able to be everywhere at all times.

Except that you didn't choose another route this time. In this case, your route was to use the exact same term to describe the other side. That was surprising to see. For shame, sir, for shame! :-)
What is the origin of the term? Is there a connection to the hardware item that I'm missing?

Yeah, that's a good essay. Buuuuut, the difference is that Chinamen is used too often to mean "yellow people" and that doesn't work with englishman/irishman, etc. Of course, you did know that...

No, using the same term *is* the other route. Like the only way to get a politician to ban red light cameras is for him to get a ticket from one.
Quote: DeucekiesI'm surprised Sonuvabish didn't get a suspension for several posts in his Leaving On A Positive Count thread, but one in particular. He called another member a "ploppy", and then defined "ploppy" as "obnoxious retard" in that same post.

Left Wing Nut.
Or Right Wing Nut.
Conflation - wingnut.

Could not even catch a break when she dies. Media coverage was almost non-existent. Margaret Thatcher dies early that day.
Richard Pryor also died from MS. What a man. Never used the N word in his act after visiting Africa. Lost 90% of his material.
Last years of his life, he had a website that told you all you needed to know about him.

Today is Annette Funicello's birthday. She would have been 72. Great gal. I heard "Tall Paul" on the radio this morning.
I was working mid-8 and would stop once a week after work. Bring a loaf of French bread, hot from Silber's bakery, a pound of Land of Lakes butter, and a gallon of milk. Great breakfast. Also show myself to some black guys I knew, who would spread the word not to mess with my cousin and her family.
This year going back to bury Josie's brother, googled Cookie's real name. Up popped her obituary.
Like I said before this is a BAD year for me. But thanks for posting, REALLY

When Don King got involved in the boxing racket, you would read about him being a number runner. But rarely a line about him kicking a guy to death. He served 5+ years, but after becoming rich and famous, he greased a Governor and got pardoned.
Now the STATE runs the numbers racket, advertises on TV for new customers.
State pays 500-1 straight, guys I worked for paid 700-1. Can you pick out the CROOKS in that last sentence ?

I'm not bothered by the term "Chinaman"
I was born in the Republic of China.
My mom is Chinese.
I am a man.
I consider myself a Chinaman. Its no biggie.
The weird thing is B9 was furious that BBB used the term.
What's up with that? I don't think B9 has Chinese blood in him.

B9 just had bigoted troll blood in him, which may explain his misogynistic feelings towards BBB.
These boards are a better place without him.

Whatever. Y'all act like he was the worst thing that ever happened here. There are others, still here, that "trolled" just like he did but they got short suspensions and not nuked. I was suspended for disagreeing strongly with his banning--my first suspension, though I may have been tempted at other times to take one for the team--and my suspension was longer than what is commonly given for a first suspension.
How quickly we forget all the crap that went down in the HB Challenge thread...
I must have missed a ton of B9's political thread posts or something because I never seen anything to far out of line, or had a problem with him. He was fairly clever and funny IMO.Quote: ams288B9 just had bigoted troll blood in him, which may explain his misogynistic feelings towards BBB.

Well, if you're ever in a fairly masochistic mood you can go through his post history and look at all of his posts. I'd guess it is about 10% of them where he is not having a passive-aggressive argument with someone.

...and none of those "arguments" had any other participants, right? I seem to remember more than one person trying to push his buttons. Now everyone is free to write anything they want about him, he has no recourse, and everyone can revise history as they wish.
I am proposing a rule--if someone is nuked, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't bother saying anything.
Reasoning--they are gone. They are not coming back. Let them go. Pretty simple.

If that rule were to go into effect - it would kill this thread.
But if it does go into effect - we'll need some advance notice. I've still got some choice words I'd like to get out about B9.

I second that proposal, RonC, and I remember your first suspension. Your "seniority" and the quality of your posts didn't mean a thing. If they were taken into account, I shudder to think what the length of your first suspension would have been.

Well, I doubt the proposal will go anywhere so you don't have too much to worry about. Keep on attacking those who cannot defend themselves!
Quote: AxelWolfA simple VPN and change his name to B1O would do just fine. There has been a few obvious times this has already happened. I think the official policy is that proof is needed.
Also, when they first nuked B9 earlier this year but then reduced his nuke to a 30 day trolling ban - wasn't there evidence that he already had multiple user names on here? But they couldn't prove it definitively which was partly why the nuke was reduced?
I don't think anyone ever asked him about that once he came back.
