FYI saying or suggesting I''m talking out of both sides of my mouth is a clear insult, saying you rat to Mike might be one as well, I suggest we both get suspended based on a martingale.
Meantime, I'll get back to doing something at the casinos.

Did anyone else notice when I mentioned there was a time I had 4 female roommates and people seemed interested in hearing about it, you quickly had a STORY about that type of situation?
In any case, Do I take it AWolf is putting in to be the vice-Chief of the Official MDawg Fan Club?

Welcome to Can You Top This 2022.
I do admit that I am troubled by an. . . . assymetry .... in our forum rules. We are forbidden to make a negative personal comment about others, but we all have an unabridged right to make grandiose positive comments about ourselves. That is . . . . assymetric. Boasting and making prideful comments about ourselves steers our discussions away from gambling, Vegas, mathematics, casinos etc.
And eventually, making grandiose claims about one's own personal greatness has some of the same impact as personally insulting others. We had a now-banned member who kept stating that he was the greatest gaming analyst in the forum and, seemingly, in the world. And that he could do things that none of the rest of us could do. Leaving aside this person as a specific example and just taking a general lesson from it, talking about one's own personal greatness (real or imagined) is a bit of a lawyerly loophole that circumvents our general intention to keep the forum on appropriate topics and keep the conversation civil and calm.
I have no specific recommendations, our rules are generally reasonable. Just thinking out loud . . .

Not a bad idea. Maybe an "I'm skeptical" button, to convey that you are respectfully skeptical of the claim, but don't want to elaborate on why.
Or, Posts should stand on their own.
The person who goes out of his way, more than once, to try to put something down might be the one with the problem. As the Wizard has said, if you don't like it, don't read it.
In normal life, you can pick a small group to direct to your speech to and ignore the others.

I have actually suggested on the forum before we need a thumbs down button next to the thanks button.
Quote: rxwineThe problem with online forums is they forgot to make the intermediate space that exists in real life. Imagine going to a private party of 30 people, and the only choices are to talk to one person (pm), or shout at the entire group when you say something? Or even in the public square. Imagine only having the choice to talk to one person or shout to the entire group.
In normal life, you can pick a small group to direct to your speech to and ignore the others.

I've been on systems that had something similar.
Most of the traffic was in the main "talking to all" section.
It introduces numerous other problems.
How do you decide who to include and exclude?
How do you avoid the "ugh, drop me from this cc:chain/groupchat"?
If you don't want one person to see it, but you don't thoroughly trust everyone you do want to send it to, how do you prevent a "forwarded FYI" against your exclusion policy?
Do you really want messages on subject on a forum, anyway?
I'm going to assume you're on Facebook. How often do you actually adjust your post visibility audience from "Public/anyone can see this"?
No need for answers; the questions are useful as gedankenexperiments.
You can disagree with someone without insulting them.
You state .your point of disagreement and then stop.
"Bill... I'm sorry but 2 + 2 does not equal 5. It's 4."
But it's an insult when...
"Bill you must have been writing letters to your mommy in class when we learned that 2 + 2 = 4 now go back to the casino and dump the rest of your unemployment check."

Well, if you want a gesture towards voting down a post, there is already the post rating feature.
Now......
If I could remind some of you that this is not a vanity thread. Please do not [continue to] hijack it.
That's to rate the thread, not posts. I don't notice the thread ratings.Quote: OnceDearQuote: unJonGood post. There should be a way to call “bull$h@!” on posts without violating forum rules.

Some people would have an inferiority complex breakdown once they realized just how many people disliked their posts.
That would especially be really bad for those members who deeply loved themselves.
ROTFLMAO, I never realized just how low of a rating his thread had, how embarrassing, I'm even embarrassed for him.
Watch it magically get some upvotes.

Frankly I fail to see how an insult can follow by someone simply telling what is commonly believed to be the truth about someone.
Truth is reality.
Sometimes "the truth hurts," but that does not negate it from being true.
Some people just don't get it.
Being practical, a hostile forum dies and I'm sure you don't want to follow what happened to that other one which is nothing but a hate site now.
Why not set up a thread where you CAN say anything, so long as it is not illegal or clearly defamatory, without fear of suspension?
Keep every thing else the same, but have one "pretty much anything goes" area.

In the early days of this forum there was such a "Free Speech Zone." However, it didn't get used much, so we got rid of it.
Not because it's necessarily a good idea, but, that it is entertainment. Why, we could even have a weekly betting forum about who is going to lose each weelk.

To use your tone in many of your prior posts: I’ll repeat the question. Why try to make it a rule now? Aside from the fact that it benefits you, of course…
Given the rough and tumble nature of the internet I choose not to do so as I value my privacy and don't want haters (and I have some) to take it into the real world.

Huh?
That post is either too brilliant for me to understand or too ridiculously absurd to get my head around.
My vote is door number two.
But to the merits of what I think your point is: a name means nothing; the message is what counts.
Who cares whether it was Johnny Jones or Peggy Petunia who posted a link proving that the world will end in three days?

Of course, we would never allow users to change their currently anonymous ID to their new claimed real name anyway, so the point is moot.
If you want unrestricted freedom of speech, start your own forum, under any name you wish! Or join some other cess pit of a forum.

I chose to use my real name here because I trusted this forum's founder that he would run a respectful site that would be free of insults, lies, libel and trolling.
But if "free speech" means that insults, lies, libel and trolling are permitted then I would stop participating here... just as I stopped at other so-called "free speech" sites which are nothing more than garbage forums.
Let me know, owners and administrators, what kind of site you want and I'll decide about my participation accordingly.
