We need a sticky post with the rules for PMs. To wit:

If X blocks Y, X can send PMs to Y but Y can't send PMs to X

If X is suspended, X can receive PMs but not answer them (in such cases you may want to include an email address for a reply) until the suspension ends.

I've no idea what happens if you set options to not receive PMs. Perhaps you can still send them.

Surely, you know that. Don't be so shy to admit to the depths of your knowledge.

The option to block someone (and hence their PMs) is a more specific issue, as you can also disable all PMs. If you get messages refused to be sent to a person you have no idea if they've blocked PMs in general.. or PMs from you specifically.

But if you wanna know if person has you blocked, you can PM them and find out...

I agree the rules should be specified. Surely JB can just look at his Unit Tests (which are surely a specification for the forum software) and tell us?

While we're at it, there should also be a posting concerning permanently banned users. Can they still log in? Can they receive PMs?

I have seen names in red in the Members Who Have Visited the Forum Today section. SOOPOO's is there now. I have also sent PMs to suspended members and they received them. I assume it was at the time I sent them.

Another thing. It would be useful if the system would inform the sender that the PM won't go through, before hitting send. That is, as soon as the name is typed in the address box, the system should say "This user does not accept PMs", or "This user does not exist." This would spare everyone some pointless typing.

I have asked JB to put in writing the PM rules. I'm not sure I understand them perfectly, so let's all wait to see what he says.

Could you not send a short test PM such as, "I just wanted to see if you accept PM's, longer PM forthcoming."
