Is it possible to take (only a quote) from one thread and use it as part of an answer on another thread?

Copy and paste. Just remember to take along the HTML quote commands (i.e. "[ q ]" and [ / q ]")
If you don't trust Windows, or whatever OS you use, to hold the copied text, you can paste it on Notepad or Word temporarily.
