This post is to notify everyone that my resignation as Administrator on these WoV Forums has been accepted by Wizard and shall take effect as soon as I can be changed from Green to Blue,( or Red $:o) )

It's been my great pleasure to help maintain some sort of order on this forum, over the last five years, dealing with simple technical matters and more complex interpersonal ones. But all good things must come to an end.

Forum moderating is certainly a thankless task, and I've had my share of feedback, both positive and negative and I appreciate it all. I like to think that I've always tried to be a fair and consistent arbiter of Wizard's rules and policies. One can but try.

I want to thank everyone who's supported me in my role as Administrator. Thanks for the opportunities, challenges and feedback.

You may speculate as to why I'm resigning, so I will be straight with you.... A few contributing reasons....

1) Return on Investment: Moderating demands a significant investment of time and attention. Though it's fun and challenging to moderate, it does lead to a certain fatigue. I have other demands on my time and attention that are currently more demanding and I don't see that changing. This is my principle reason for stepping down.

2) My work here is done: The 'new guys' have been in place for over a year and they are quite capable of taking over completely. It was never my intention to be 'Moderator for life'

3) Moderator status takes away some of the rights of regular membership. I'd like those rights back. Some things that I would post as a member could not, and should not, be posted as a moderator.

4) Related to (3) The forum exists for the benefit of its members, not for its moderators, and my own expression of firmly held opinions was causing just too much of a distraction in some threads. I could have suppressed my contrarian opinions, but sometimes the inner passion seeped out as, what some might call, 'passive aggression'. I'm too set in my ways to change and I make no apology for who I am. But to anyone who found my posts objectionable, I apologise for the content.

The forum will be safe in the hands of Wizard and my fellow moderators as they go on to pull together in (mostly) the same direction. I'm sure that they will continue to embrace our feedback. Fear not guys, I'm not going rogue. I'll remain loyal to the moderator team. But I'm not going anywhere.

In the interest of clarity: I was neither asked nor told by anyone to step down. It was my decision, which was accepted by Wizard. We parted on good terms.
I did consider just retaining moderator status and just stepping back, but that would preclude me contributing fully as a member, and I do want to continue doing that.

One final big shoutout to Wizard, Gordon, Dieter, BeachbumBabs and the backroom guys. Thank you.

Special thanks to Mission146, whose resignation announcement, I plagiarised $:o)

Regards,
OnceDear

As I have said privately, thank you for your many years of service. You were a hard-working moderator. For a long time, before dieter and Gordon were promoted, the two of us carried the vast majority of the load. I agree moderating is mostly a thankless job, but I certainly thank you for all the time and effort you put in. Job very well done.

Welcome to the ex-moderators club and I look forward to your continued participation.

Ok... now tell us the truth as to why you are really stepping down.

I think I'm detecting some serious patterns here.

I bet I can make and educated guesses with 80% accuracy as to why you ultimately took your Dawg out of the fight.

Let me know if you want me to reveal my educated guess.

What about Face, his name is still in green. He hasn't posted here in two and a half years and he hasn't visited here in a year and a half. Is he still a moderator?

There are a number of other moderators, most of whom went into the 'backroom guys' category. I acknowledged by name the 80% who have given me 94.737% of the help that I've received, during my tenure.
No offence to Face, but he and I have had very little interaction over my time here, even when he was active as a moderator.
Just as some MEMBERS choose to stay away from the forum as members, and might later return as members, so too, some moderators choose to stay and might return later as moderators.
We could call them 'Sleepers'.
I chose not to be a 'Sleeper'.
