I understand this isn't an airport, and I have no need to announce my departure. I just want to say goodbye and thanks to the few of you have become friends of mine since I joined many years ago. I consider some of you good friends. Some of you I have learned a lot from. Some of you I will terribly miss.
When I found this forum years ago, it was like I stumbled upon the greatest forum in the world. Vegas, Gambling and Math. My 3 favorite hobbies. I found many people much like me. Only smarter. Only more knowledgeable. It was amazing!
Now, it seems that this place has completely fallen apart. Guys like me serve a suspension for saying MarcusClark has no chance to ever be a moderator and that gets tagged as a personal insult. Yet, while Im suspended, I sit and read many people say the same thing about Mission, about other members. I even see the Wizard himself say most of the applicants he has received arent qualified. How is that much different that what I said about MarcusClark?
I then, also while suspended, watch MarcusClark post the same post 3 times in 1 day. I can pull up proof if needed. He said the same thing 3 times! The rules explicitly state, DO NOT POST THE SAME THING MORE THAN ONCE. IF NO ONE ANSWERED THEY HAVE NOTHING TO SAY. Yet, I sit suspended while people do things like that. Nah, I'll pass.
So while I appreciate the many friends Ive made here, and will miss some of you, I will still be here reading daily and will be available via PM. I am just not going to post anymore while I can easily be suspended because someone complains about me, while people do direct violations of the rules and are free to do whatever they see fit.
I just hope whoever the next Mod is is more like OnceDear.
Peace!

Goodbye. I wish you well. Peace.
In other news, I'd like to welcome gordonm888 and dieter as our latest moderators!
Thanks for your contribution to the forum. Even if you don't post, the PM facility is open to you. You could, for instance, point out offending posts to the new moderators.Quote: mwalz9So while I appreciate the many friends Ive made here, and will miss some of you, I will still be here reading daily and will be available via PM. I thank you for that implied praise. All feedback is welcome, by post, PM, or Bitcoin $:o)

This facility remains open to all members in good standing. The permalink is helpful.
Pick a moderator you like, dislike, or who you think may address it fairly, or unfairly in your favor, or whatever.
Also, make sure to only attempt to update the list from a proper computer or laptop with a keyboard. Trying to do it from your phone could easily result in disaster.
Impartiality ? LOL. Punctuation could totally invert the meaning of that. An 'im too many?.Quote: MDawgI can't think offhand of anything controversial they have done or said which implies impartiality.
I can recall that Gordon has been critical of previous mod decisions, so things might be about to change.... In a good way.

Yes a comma was needed. Meaning more clear? Taken in context with my support for them, the comma adds clarity but shouldn't have been entirely needed.

But Ill say this, If you really feel this way then don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Quote: MDawgAs far as any member (including myself) leaving, threatening to leave, or expressing dissatisfaction with the way things are, the advice has always been.
I don't even see a door!
You certain it's not a window?

Thank you. Its true that its old history that I was critical of some of the moderation deicisions, but I have been in almost perfect agreement with the style of moderation over the past 18-24 months.
I personally believe that all our regular members are an asset to the WOV forums. I want to see the forums grow and I hope to be tolerant of diversity in the membership - WOV forums is a weird amalgam of people who mow the same lawn from different directions. APs, casino security, game developers, math geeks, recreational players, casino staff, writers, etc. - and with a wide range of personality types as well. But I feel like every regular forum member has things they could teach me, (and there are probably things I could teach them. ) That's the strength of a forum.
Of course, when a fight breaks out at the bar, the moderators need to swoop down and restore order. And I'll be doing my job under the direction and guidance of Wizard (and the more senior administrators) so let's not expect any fundamental changes. But I aspire to be a good part of a good forum, and have no other agenda then that.
(Gulp -I guess we can see which moderator is going to be prone to make speeches!)
Possibly a personal insult (Dieter and Gordon have to determine if this is suspension worthy…), but they are both NUTS to take on the GREEN hue!
Good luck to both!
Quote: billryanAt some point, I'd think the administrators would want to know why so many long time members no longer post here. I'm surprised by some who evidently read what goes on and and will correspond with me about it but no longer will post here. Having a new moderator who says he is in complete agreement with the moderation of the past year or so is disappointing. I was hoping new blood would give the place a good sweeping but seems like it will be more of the same old, same old, with members being allowed to make ridiculous claims and no one allowed to challenge them to challenge them. I look forward to a new wave of Sic Bo APS delighting us with their photos of suites and fancy garter belts.
Don't be disappointed yet.
There is new blood and their input will help steer the direction of the forum. We expect to generally agree, but will have a larger pool of adjudicators to discuss moderation policy behind the scenes.
Salary demand....Quote: SOOPOOI sent Mike my salary demands to be a moderator, and he rejected my reasonable request. It was less than $100k per year. Gordon and Dieter must have underbid me….
No. we had to bid for the right to moderate. I'm hoping he will give me a discount, now he has the two new guys paying their tithes.

Wizard did recently enact the "hidden threads" option which is a change. All hail the "Isle of Elba"
Need I be clearer? Don't assume!Quote: billryanI was excited to see the two new people but if its going to be the same moderation only with different names, I don't see how that will turn around the forum.
Quote: WizardI'd say the ratio of complaints to compliments of forum management is about 100 to 1.
So, at the risk of unleashing 100 complaints to even things out, I'd like to thank all the Mods, especially our two newest, for their service in keeping WoV a nice place.

The members you perceive as problems, the ones who virtually always win at negative expectation games, are expressly allowed to post their claims as per the Wizard. If one of the new moderators decided today to suspend one of them for no other reason than their claims are ridiculous, the Wizard would overrule that new moderator.

Thank you! That cancels out the last 100 complaints for me.

In other news, I see no reason for this thread to remain open. To billryan and my other critics, if you don't like the way I police this forum, don't let the door hit you in the *** on the way out.

Look, I have posted in the past the same thoughts -that there are a lot of valuable former members who don't post here any more. So,please believe that I am sympathetic with the sentiment you are expressing. I would be interested in hearing more from you on the subject.
I said I was in complete agreement with the style of moderating of the past two years because its true: I think the moderation style has changed and generally has been less heavy handed, and more thoughtful. I don't think its constructive to be more specific than that.
But, on my first days on a new job, I am going to concentrate on building relationships and on learning the various aspects of my job. Don't you think it is unfair to expect anyone to walk into a new job and proclaim on Day One that they are going to address old grievances and make them right and make changes in the way business is done? I would be a pretty sorry new volunteer if I did that, and a pretty unsuccessful one.
Here's what you can expect about the moderating style in WOV: it will change. Because, everything changes all the time. It may change and get better or it may change and get worse, I don't know which. But I will try to be a part of inspiring change for the better, whatever the heck "better" is. And I will honor my relationships with forum members, other moderators and the Wizard, whenever we have those kinds of discussions.
I also want to acknowledge that I was surprised and impressed with the Wizard for asking me to be a moderator, because I have indeed had a record in the past for advocating for changes in the way the Forum is moderated. I think that's pretty cool and definitely merits respect.

Any past grievances precede my term in office.
My role is to address continuing and new grievances.

Amen to that. I'm all in favor of some new blood and a new way of doing things.
