I thought it turned out just fine considering the circumstances. (Forgive me Father, but I lost faith for a few minutes and didn't think you would pull it off.) There were some good questions. Hopefully you will post it, perhaps as a private video link, so it can at least be viewed and discussed here. Otherwise it goes down as a lost episode.

Question for Heather
I notice that the Wizard has a "Forbidden Planet" movie poster in his study. I was wondering if you had seen the film since it was one of the main inspirations for Gene Roddenberry when he was creating "Star Trek".

[Ignore this post if you think it's too long.]

Question
What are your thoughts about "The Wizard of Oz" movie (not book) conspiracy theory that Glinda is the true villain of the story? I know it sounds crazy but consider the evidence...

a) At the start of the film, Glinda is one of four major powers vying for control of Oz. At the end of the film, two of her rivals are dead and the third is leaving in a hot air balloon.

b) To celebrate the death of her eastern rival, Glinda throws a huge party complete with a conspicuous Munchkin military display.

c) When Glinda meets Dorothy, the first and main thing she wants to know is just how powerful the new witch is.

d) Why didn't Glinda immediately tell Dorothy that the Ruby Slippers could take her home? Did she perhaps notice how easily the girl had killed her eastern rival and then cunningly decide to direct her down the Yellow Brick Road resulting in a rather convenient battle between her other two rival powers?

e) At the end of the film, when Dorothy and the Wizard are leaving Oz, Glinda is nowhere to be seen. Once Dorothy gets left behind, however, she quickly appears and shows Dorothy how the Ruby Slippers will take her home. Dorothy leaves, and Glinda becomes the last witch standing.

Conclusion: Viewed from this perspective, Glinda certainly appears to be a master manipulator who has no compunction about sending a young girl into a very dangerous situation while she herself stays safely on the sidelines. The only help she gives is a snow flurry designed to keep Dorothy awake and alert so the child can continue her mission of mayhem and murder. Glinda does, however, speak the truth about one thing: You don't have to be old and ugly to be a witch.

My question (speaking of death): what are your thoughts on yet another keno lounge (at Fremont Casino) closing?

From strictly an odds perspective, it's not a big loss — but did you think they were a good experience in terms of slow outcomes to let visitors enjoy the casino atmosphere and occasional comped drinks?

QUESTION ... someone today claimed arbitraged bets where a win is guaranteed, is better than a freeroll bet that has a positive expected value, even if that freeroll EV is a far higher amount. What is your view of that?

Questions
Your TITO rant in the last livestream spawned much discussion and debate in the Wizard of Vegas forums.

1) Do you think the casinos are exploiting the coin shortage situation for their own convenience and/or profit, or do you think they are innocently trying to deal with the situation as best they can?

2) What is the legality of a person scrounging tossed coin vouchers off the casino floor and cashing them in?

My question is on online sports gambling again.

Sometimes the offer is to give you a second-chance bet if you lose your bet, where you do not get your original bet back, as we have discussed. These are sweet of course.

BUT other times, this same second-chance bet is not for the full amount. Instead, it is partial but you get it whether your bet loses or not.

A current example is to bet on an NHL team with a $50 bet and get $10 instantly, win or lose on the original. This has to be bet...  with that same thing though on the $10 of only keeping any winnings.*

Is this offer worth taking?

What if it was some other amount? Clearly the amount could be too small to be good. Is there a formula that can be used?

*The $10 has to be used on an NHL "live" bet. I think that is fairly unimportant but I thought I'd mention it.

It's a scientific as well as religious question. Before the Big Bang scientists often maintain there was no such thing as Time ... perhaps there was nothing! Some things are believed to be net zero in the universe, such as the amount of positive and negative charge, thus could have come from zero [nothing]

maybe Heather has heard of this

thanks for answering my questions ... sorry if the online sports gambling questions are starting to grate

Heather should know I don't think an atheist should ignore or be ignorant about this bit about "why is there something instead of nothing?" IMO it is a bit more profound than "is there a God?" because it has scientifically valid aspects to it. I believe I am correct that she did say she is an atheist, my apologies if she did not.

Wizard, regarding your point about not knowing why a casino wouldn't allow back betting/betting on someone else's bonus, in WA state it is against the law.

It's looking more and more likely that the Oakland A's will relocate to Vegas and, if so, will want to build their new stadium where the Tropicana stands.

As Vegas residents, do you and Heather think that a ballpark on the Strip will add to all the fun and excitement, or would it be more of a traffic nightmare every homestand?

In reply to the idea that "casinos don't care if you win sometimes", James Grosjean wrote recently this:

Quote:

Some casinos don’t sweat it, but many casinos and thousands of bosses expect to win every time, against every player, and take it personally if the player beats the casino. Casinos are babies. Slimy, crap-producing, whiny babies

Do you think the Grosjean observation is more prevalent than the other observation?

Suppose I didn't like my stay at a particular casino, how would you formulate your criticism to the casino manager? Either to improve the casino experience next time or to be better compensated. What are the best arguments to get the manager to improve things? Spend my money somewhere else? Negative reviews? Talking about technical details (e.g. that the games are too fast/slow)?

With internet sports gambling often an offer has you make a bet first, and if it loses the offer kicks in. The requirement on the initial bet will be that the odds are at least -200 or closer to even, or +100 or more of course is OK. In other words, -205 does not qualify, while -195 does qualify. With parlay offers it is even tighter, currently I am seeing the generated odds need to be +300 or more, +295 not qualifying.

According to some of your thinking about the best HE you can get with these offers, it seems they have it backwards. However, they must have their reasons. Can you tell us what their thinking is on this?
the next time Dame Fortune toys with your heart, your soul and your wallet, raise your glass and praise her thus: “Thanks for nothing, you cold-hearted, evil, damnable, nefarious, low-life, malicious monster from Hell!”   She is, after all, stone deaf. ... Arnold Snyder

If I was there when you were live, I'd have been enthusiastically participating in your Golden Girls trivia. Unfortunately I didn't wake up in time.
