I am coincidentally going to check out Hollywood casino at Charles Town [WV] very soon. In the meantime I would vote for the second day being Rocky Gap. I guess if I can change my vote, I might surprise myself and change it to Charles Town. I have sort of assumed Rivers would be the choice for Saturday, since it got a bunch of votes last time.
These are decent enough options for me as well.Quote: Indy70My vote for the first day, would be. Meadows- Wheeling Island- Rivers. The second day is a no go for me.

It's a rigged election.
I can only make Ohm Doh and Pany, so that leaves WV and NJ as the answer! Best of luck with the weekend.Quote: onenickelmiracleOH, PA, WV, MD, NJ, NY, OH.
I blogged about my experience.
shindig (n.)...
"dance, party, lively gathering," 1871, probably from shindy "a spree, merrymaking" (1821), also "a game like hockey;" perhaps from shinty, name of a Scottish game akin to hockey (1771), earlier shinny (see shinny (n.)).

Yes, this was a thread revival! OK method to do this according to the rules i think.

Not sure it could even count as a violation given the event is still in the future. Thank you, as doing so brought it to my attention.
We would be interested in joining this shindig. (BTW, Make sure you are up to speed on Doc's situation.) We are also in NC so our travel involves flight for anything north of D.C. We can likely make it but times a wastin', and booking a flight for a holiday weekend needs extra time.
Now for the ramblings of an alleged know it all, my other half, speaking from years of experience with college students as attendees…
The best way we have found to ease the planning process is to set the date far in advance. The later it gets the more plans there are to dodge. Having a date set allows those with even a curious interest to stay engaged. Trying to accommodate everyone's schedule means "everyone" turns into the dedicated few and the late decision leads to inevitable conflicts. The guidelines we use are that Dates be set four (4) months in advance and if location is not also set, organizers should provide no more than three options for discussion. Keep in mind that location, in this context, refers to city or metro area as the major destination. Location decision should be announced no less than three (3) months in advance. One trick that gives credit for attending the event is to start planning the next occurrence during the event, just picking a month can help.
Good!Quote: ThenWhatHappensWe can likely make it
Catch up in the thread and you will see it is set for May 27th/28th ... two dates as the idea is to come to one or the other, or both if you can. As for location, in a previous thread Rivers/Pittsburgh was chosen for Saturday and it seems likely to 'stick' (for the 27th). The voting has been spotty since though.Quote:but times a wastin', and booking a flight for a holiday weekend needs extra time.

I agree but I think we have found Gamblers like to gamble on deciding at the last minute!Quote:(other considerations)
I was looking for the results of the vote that was scheduled to conclude on 03APR per this thread in a previous post.
The only two casinos we have been to (east of Missouri,) are Horseshoe Baltimore and Maryland Live. ML was so comical, I could almost entertain playing there again but I don't like standing in line that much. That place puts the DMV to shame. Do they still restrict what you can bring onto the casino floor to items purchased in their gift shop? Or maybe it was just no gum, I remember buying breath mints because they did not have gum. I don't recall it being that loud but our craps table was told to quiet down… more than once. HS had their share of lines too, and I do remember it being rather loud.
In his latest blog post, see link, Grosjean gives a nice explanation of the 'Dutch Book' - a concept originating in economics that has application in AP gambling. According to the Wikipedia page, the gambling variety is distinct. Contrast, though, the almost unreadable Wikipedia article to Grosjean's interpretation:
Quote: GrosjeanThe Dutch Book is an economist’s justification for why certain market inefficiencies cannot exist. In the classic example, suppose a guy prefers A to B, and B to C, and C to A. ... economists rule out such preferences by saying that if such a guy existed temporarily, he would be eliminated from the market by some AP who would run a Dutch Book on the guy. The AP says, “Hey, since you prefer B to C, I’ll give you one B, and you give me one C plus a dollar.” ... Then the AP says, “Hey, since you prefer A to B, give me that B—plus a dollar—and I’ll give you one A.” After that transaction, the AP says, “Give me a dollar with that A, and I’ll give you one C.” The sucker is back where he started with one C, but the AP is three dollars richer ...
Quote: how Wikipedia page starts out and it gets worseThe main point of the Dutch Book Argument is to show that rational people must have subjective probabilities for random events, and that these probabilities must satisfy the standard axioms of probability

I'm sure you can find the Wikipedia page but I wouldn't bother

ahh.. memorial day weekend.
but im working :(
I didn't realize this when I voted. Maybe we should push it again. Um, July, August?Quote: 100xOddsQuote: odiousgambitCatch up in the thread and you will see it is set for May 27th/28th ... two dates as the idea is to come to one or the other, or both if you can. I'd say we need to see some interest immediately or, yes, try another time.
In my book this event is in limbo, at least for may 27th

Yeah I agree. There appears to be very little interest for a get together in May.

If anyone is still up for the May trip let me know. We were agreeable to Rivers for this date and might have a third joining us.
Given the draw that WoVcon Prime will always have, it might be best to pick a date in the fall to avoid conflict. October is offset by six months giving everyone a chance to attend both events. An added attraction to lure some out of area players is the Fall Foliage that time of year.
Although a smaller show, Cutting Edge Table Games also attracts WoV members. It's 11/14-11/16 this year.

I think we should try one more time for September, maybe middle of the month. I continue to believe that Rivers sucks on a Saturday. I'd really like to see us all get out to AC, or something like that, if possible. With such advance notice, I see no reason why anyone who would really want to go would be unable to attend.
If not AC, then at least somewhere where we would have a reasonable chance of getting a Craps table to ourselves. That's not happening at Rivers on a Saturday.
We could go with two separate dates/locations on the same weekend, or we could do one location for two days if some people could make one day but not the other. Lady Luck Nemacolin is almost ideal for something like this, the only real problem is Washington, PA is the closest place for reasonably priced hotels.
Quote: onenickelmiracleI'll vote September 9th-10th, the Steelers are away in Cleveland on the 10th, home the 17th, away the next, home Oct 1st.
You should check out PIT/CLE, you'd be saying, "The Steelers are home in Cleveland on the 10th..." jk

Decided to do AC instead, no date set.
