Ironically, there are slot machine games based on both of those themes.

One of my favorites. Some many great quotes but this one made me see things in a much different light. Maybe I should start a thread on the lines from that movie. For a spaghetti western, it sure runs deep sometimes.

[To his brother Pablo] You think you're better than I am? Where we came from, if one did not want to die of poverty, one became a priest or a bandit! You chose your way, I chose mine. Mine was harder. You talk of our mother and father. You remember when you left to become a priest? I stayed behind! I must have been ten, twelve. I don't remember which, but I stayed. I tried, but it was no good. Now I am going to tell you something. You became a priest because you were... too much of a coward to do what I do!

That #3 horse already has my full backing.

However, I have a feeling that #2 and/or #10 is the house favorite.... Look who's riding her. ;)

Dave,
There is NO doubt that #3 is THE very best Roulette side bet that I have ever seen in my life, and as the inventor of EZpg, MHO counts for a little. I have tried to do what you had in Roulette, and flat-out failed, - an ass-kicking and all. We ALL missed it but you Dave. A bit hard to implement, but the technology is right around the corner.

I had abandoned my own place-bet type Roulette side bets based on your work that had kicked ma' ass. See: Dave Kicked my ass.

Only technology and expense is a factor for you and your mathematican. Roulette is way the f-ck overdue for a great side bet, and with progressive technology, things are getting much closer. Will a major distributor make it happen? A little computer programming, - and a LOT of money of and action....

Now also, #6 is a VERY fine and surprisingly fine and smooth-playing Poker variant that is VERY quick and Rich. Nothing compares quite to UTH, but Hong Kong Poker (Sorry, Roger, love ya), it's GOOD competition for Crazy-4 Poker and Four Card Poker, - both very fine. It has to be considered and gotten out, if possible. Big action and money are involved, let's get in on it....

Dan -

Thanks again for the words of encouragement. It means a lot to me.

I completely missed the "Dave Kicked my ass" thread the first time around. Of course, if it had THAT thread title, things would have been different.

I'm fairly certain that was posted while I was in Vegas pitching my Hit It Again idea. With so many unread threads when I got home, I totally missed that one. Plus, I was too busy nrsing my wounds from rejection to pay attention to every thread.

Then again, I came up with the Poker For Roulette idea in the hours between getting the rejection and landing at home. I didn't make the announcement until weeks later when I got my provisional patent acceptance, so I understand why that thread had the title that it had.

I have word that the stable is heavily backing the 2 horse. He is racing on his home track. And his jockety, R. Snow, is not an apprentice boy, having ridden winning ideas in the past. Be that as it may, I am thrilled to be among the entries, even as a 99-1 longshot.

Remember fellas, the race is not always won by the fastest horse, but that's the way to bet. LOL

You have got to give props again to Roger/SHFL for giving so many forum members a shot at some excellent feedback. Would love to be a fly on the wall in the back of the room and watch some forum brethren give their pitches.

Roger, any potential for a couple of guest passes given to each outside presenter? I have at least one presenter I would like to show up for and support.

I like that idea - even if it's just a "moral" support thing. I.E. The guest pass people don't fill out the evaluation forms. Or maybe they do, but their forms aren't given as much weight as the VIP invitees.

JHC on a Popsicle stick. This is turning into the Academy Awards. Feted the night before ... plus-ones ... What's next, Joan and Melissa on the red carpet outside our showroom? SWAG bags? Lavish after-party at Liza's?

Fine. You each get one visitor for moral support, but he or she cannot vote.

Roger -

Please understand that for most of us, this started out as the Academy Awards. I've already had several friends ask me if I'm planning on wearing brown pants.

We're not typing to make you nuts, but this is unchartered teritory for some of us.

Joan and Melissa? No, but it makes me wonder if there will be any media there.

After-party? As most of you know, I proposed a little get-together of WoV members that might be in town while I'm there: WoVCon-2A. You're certainly invited, as is anyone else presenting or in attendance. Please RSVP in that thread. It's tentatively scheduled for sometime Thursday after The Wizard gets done with his radio show.

Good Luck inventors. here is something to consider:
Quote from The Wizard, Michael Shackleford:
After doing math analysis and consulting on about 200 games for game inventors I learned a thing or two.
One is that games that are totally out of left field have almost no chance.
If you can't explain the rules of a game in under 15 seconds
players won't have the patience to learn it,
dealers will make errors, and casino management likely won't give it a chance in the first place.
Games that have the best chance to succeed are blackjack and poker variations,
because players already understand the basic rules of those games.
With the exception of Casino War all successful new table games
have taken blackjack or poker and introduced just one major rule twist.

Don't presume to speak for any other inventor, but I look at this as a no lose lottery. I mean, somebody will get a chance,
hopefully, to get ShuffleiMaster interested in their game. Others will at least have theit games reviewed and flaws and areas of improvement suggested. A few will get a polite "WTF" and from there on it's up to them to face reality.
As for me, this waking up at 3 am and thinking " Damn, how did I overloook that ? " will stop no matter what !

Really? What the heck for?

Unless your game needs some specific type of chip, why make them?

Ask Roger if the table he is providing will come with chips.

If not (which I seriously doubt), go out and get a poker chip set. Hell, if you're a real gambler, you have one or know someone that could lend you a set.

Good advice indeed, But i intend to have a ' Senior Friendly " demo. Over-sized cards and chips. Roger has even offered the service of a SMI dealer.,Which I am about to gracefully decline. I KNOW I KNOW !

Dan Lubin will probably want to shoot me when he reads this, but I somehow got this far. Gonna go down swinging. Sorta like standing in the batter's box against Sandy Koufax or Bob Feller ( or worse Steve Dalkowski ) and praying I don't get a baseball in

I don't know about a baseball in your ear, but it looks like you're getting a bullet in your foot - and that you're doing the shooting!
You don't need Dan to shoot you....

"Senior friendly" ? Just because you're that old, don't assume that your demo audience, or the game's target audience is.

Oversized cards? Or just large index? I hope it's the latter. Using such cards might be a good idea for demo purposes. Hell, some of us gave the Wiz crap for not using them in his videos. So, considering that you might be demoing to a group of people that are standing a short distance from the table, cards with large index is a good idea.

But you don't need 20/20 vision to tell the difference between a red chip and a green chip - particularly fake chips that have small or no edge spots.

While I appreciate being on this short list, (Hell, I apprecitate being on the long list too!), I can't help but wonder how you've put any sort of ranking to this.

Unless I completely missed it, I don't recall seeing any discussion except for my Poker For Roulette bet and Money Suit 31.

I've done Google searches but have come up empty.

What do you know that I don't know? And how did you find out?

For the record, in emails from Roger Snow, he has provided the email address of all the participants. I COULD have emailed everyone to ask, but my curiosity level isn't great enough to go beyond looking for public announcements.

This is how we will tabulate scores at the May 2 focus group:

Attendees will play each game for 10-15 minutes and then, as soon as they are finished, they will check a box on their ballot that best describes their feelings about it. There are five choices and each one has a corresponding point value:

Great: +10 points
Good: +5 points
OK: 0 points
Bad: -5 points
Garbage: -10 points

We will have 13 eligible voters, so the best possible score is +130 and--as symmetry would have it--the worst possible score is -130.

If past performance is a prescient prognosticator, the game that wins this event will score between 85 and 100 points and the one that finishes last will get about -50 points.

Let the games begin.

Contestants will have three options regarding the announcement of their scores:

1. In front of all other contestants, at the end of the focus group; or
2. Via e-mail that night; or
3. Hermetically sealed in a mason jar, which will be dropped to the bottom of the Marianas Trench.

Ignoring that such a jar will float, I think that comment is Roger's way of saying "I wish you guys would stop bugging me with stupid questions and concentrate on your presentation!"

Frankly, there are a couple details that have me concerned.

But rather than ask about them, I'm prepared to deal with it regardless of what the answer would be. I mean, it's not like the conditions of the presentation or event are going to change because I object to something.

For what it's worth, I don't care about my score. I figure that if the score and/or comments are good enough, I'll find out soon enough. If not, then I'll have gained valuable experience to be better prepared for next time.

doomed. People do NOT like convoluted complicated
casino games. KISS, Keep It Simple Stupid. I'd
be explaining my game to anybody who would
listen, seeing if it is indeed simple enough for the
moron public to understand.

Frankly, there are a couple details that have me concerned.

By the way, I meant the room layout, rules, scoring, etc. I was not referring to my own presentation.

If I was a contestant, I'd be worried about the
first 60 sec of my presentation. Can my game
b explained in 30sec or less?

The first 30 seconds I have down cold:

"Poker For Roulette is a side bet for Roulette. In short, you're betting that the next five spins will produce something that looks like a poker hand. It could be as simple as one repeat within those 5 spins, which make a pair, or all the same color for a flush, all the way up to Five Of A Kind, which wins the Progressive Jackpot."

If I have any presentation concerns, it's what to say in the next 30 seconds.

I *think* at that point I'll turn to one of my history display photos and continue, "For example, here we see .... "

I already figured out one thing. I occasionally suffer from verbal diarrhea. I hope to let the cards speak for me.

If nothing else, U get a free dinner hosted by someone who runs an empire (The Emperor himself). Congratulations and good luck to all.

My Mulligan Poker and I are late entrants to this event. I'm looking forward to participating. Hopefully nobody feels that I'm diluting their chances. Thanks Roger for squeezing me in.
