Are there any substantial legal obstacles stopping me (or anyone else) from creating their own clone of Three Card Poker with a different name and logo?

For fun I asked ChatGPT for some suggestions of what a new Three Card Poker game could be named; my favorites are Triad Hold, Third Street Showdown, and Trigon Flush :D

It is public domain now as far as what patent protection "it may have had". A lot of other companies have made their own take on it, 3 Card Prime by Galaxy for example (although they changed the ante bonus up a little bit). I think some other big distributors probably have their own version of it as well. It still has trademark protection, but if you change the name to be distinct enough you are probably good.

A few years ago I wrote about the new / copy version of All Tall Small.

https://wizardofvegas.com/forum/gaming-business/game-inventors/36549-clone-of-galaxys-all-tall-small-bonus-craps-bet/#post827897

The original is by Galaxy Gaming and the copy is by Scientific (formerly ShuffleMaster, now Light & Wonder) - two heavyweights in the industry. What does that tell you?
I invented a few casino games. Info: http://www.DaveMillerGaming.com/ ————————————————————————————————————— Superstitions are silly, irrational, childish rituals, born out of fear of the unknown. But how much does it cost to knock on wood? 😁

Are you asking because you'd like to copy someone else's game, or because you'd like to keep other people from copying yours?
May the cards fall in your favor.

I was more wondering why there isn't a different version of Three Card Poker at almost every casino. It seems pretty simple from what others have described - if I knew a little more about the industry I would be tempted to make replica games myself but I prefer to do innovative work.

All of the casinos who have a license with Light and Wonder will use this one, it has strong name recognition since it has been on the market for 30 years now. The properties that use other distributors are probably using a different version.
