Would any aspiring inventors like to participate in a game-demo day July 22 at SHFL?
We can accommodate eight games, one per inventor. Outside games only; nothing from SHFL. The event should take 2-3 hours.
The first eight people to sign and return the confidentially waiver will be included.
Your games will be reviewed by the table-games department at SHFL, including general manager John Hemberger, North American product director Ryan Yee and game developer/mathematician Elliot Frome.
It's possible--repeat possible, not guaranteed--that a game from this event could be displayed at our booth at G2E in September.
If interested, contact me at rsnow@shfl.com.

Wish I had something new worthy of presenting. Does the above statement mean game ideas get reviewed prior to the demo, and from there 8 are selected? Or can the guy with a game on a napkin get in the action?

That demo was last week in Sri Lanka. Nobody
showed up..

Napkins accepted.
Developers can choose to show their games personally or they can elect to have me show them in their stead.
We are down to seven open spots.
I've made significant changes to Poker For Roulette since then, and I know I can do a better job of demoing it.
Lemme sleep on it...

Actually I think DJ has made some significant improvements/changes to the version he demo'd at SHFL Focus 1.....quicker bet resolution, higher hit rate, etc....like all new games, it is still going to be a huge hurdle to get a trial, but this version has a better shot than the last version.
Quote: AceCrAAckersIf SHFL should come to the east coast, I'm game to do a demo, no pun intended. If SHFL should come to AC, let me know.
Evidently you feel asleep in religion class at Saint Joe's.
"If the mountain won't come to Mohammed, Mohammed will go to the mountain."
Don't pass on this opportunity. I regretfully must do so.

Are you willing to demo my three dice craps game for me? 200-1 on a rolling a 3 or 18. Easiest way to win $1000 at a casino on a $5 bet.
I think craps people can get used to hearing "11 out!"

Nice!
I also partially put together a Three-Dice Craps game, if you want to exchange notes via PM. Except, there were two, "Out," numbers, if I recall correctly.
My Field Bet was really, really cool. I got the House Edge to be exactly the same as standard Craps!

To be honest, they should be coming to me! ;-)

You mean like Cee-lo? Ok, not quite the same, but someone had a version like this at last years G2E.

Tough to deliver well, holding and rolling 3 dice rather than 2 makes a difference for the player, plus it smacks of duplication rather than innovation. Having said that Craps is big your side of the pond so it might work.

It's on my blog 4/18/2010. I have the name all set too! I can't wait for the money to roll in (PUN!) Mission!
Quote: Mission146Cool, I'm going to PM you the details of the game I was kicking around. If you want, we'll share notes and ideas for the Hell of it!
Come on Mission. Let us all see what influence hotel management has had on you .

LOL
I don't do that anymore, I'm in distribution, now. It's a good time, good job, and my arms are friggin' ripped! I went from 6'4" 228 to 6'4" 198 in the matter of two and a half months. I'd love the abs to match the arms, but too many years of abdominal neglect has rendered that impossible...or highly improbable.
No pallets, individual cases of stuff, like Carnation and Per evaporated milk, 96 cans of each. Plus everybody bought a 5 lb bag of sugar. 18 bags inside a big paper package. 90 lbs each and would just get stuck on rollers, so had to be carried from truck and
100 feet into basement. Just wonderful in summer months, 140 or so in truck, Baltimore humidity 95 or higher.
6 ' 4 " . Did not know they piled it that high.
I sent you a PM. I don't want to toss out too many hints as to my specific place of employment.

Sorry Buzz, but we are full.

I have a spot, and I am so excited ! A week away .... I am working hard in my spare time to have all my ducks (chips) in a row.
Making the cross country trip, so I want to make it worth the travel.

We will give you a report on how it goes.
Did you make a table layout?Quote: NewToCrapsWe will give you a report on how it goes.
Quote: UCivanDid you make a table layout?
No.
You describe the game description, with an image, or a picture, or a hand-drawn sheet as to how the betting spots look like.
Then Shufflemaster's graphic artist makes a 14 inch cardboard card of the player's position, that slides into the table's player position.
Quick, simple, and easy, - and it does the job.
Next best thing to doing your own layout.

Do we get to know how your game works?
Dan, are you with Roger or SHFL? I recall you were with Galaxy Gaming and DEQ, SHFL's light weight competitors. I am confused. Or you were talking about your past experience and you believed Roger has an invariant protocol?Quote: PaigowdanNo.

My past experience.
I was with DEQ then, and I'm now with Galaxy, but I had previously attended Roger's New game Showcase as an independent game designer (actually, I was with DEQ gaming at the time, the "third" small gaming company, a nano-cap feather-weight, actually), but I was looking to sign some games with a better, and larger act, than DEQ.

Shocking, surely the game developer should have at least a layout to present. cardboard cut outs, please!!
No. SHFL prints "placemats." These are 17x11 sheets with green backgrounds and whatever betting circles and table printing the designer specifies. These are laid out on top of a BJ table and the demo is good to go.Quote: McDemonShocking, surely the game developer should have at least a layout to present. cardboard cut outs, please!!
At least that's what all the other presenters had. I brought all my own printed materials. All SHFL gave me was a roulette table. I'm not bitter at all. I prefer printing my own stuff to my exact specifications, but it was unexpected that SHFL did that for everyone else.

Fair enough just not my style
Trust me. If the game will ultimately be played on a BJ style curved table, then putting placemats on an actual BJ table, complete with chip tray and chips, is more then sufficient.Quote: McDemonFair enough just not my style
FWIW, last year I was provided a roulette iTable. I put my stuff on top and used the wheel and history display for my demo. I do believe that some of the evaluators were distracted by the iTable. Last year, the evaluators were industry people who may never have seen an iTable. This year, as I understand it, the evaluators are all SHFL employees, and I've refined my idea, so I expect better results.
Quote: McDemonFair enough just not my style [using placemats]
That may be true, but what matters is if it is Shufflemaster's style.
Do keep in mind there has to be a fair and level playing field, with all games showing their game play merits and mechanisms at equal advantage. There can be no more reasons for sour grapes, as had happened and had hurt previous game demos. I love great production artwork as much as the next game designer, but for this game demo forum, even-Steven is the order of the day. (I'm not attending, just making a point.)
