Here is a photo from a DDB win at the Gold Coast. Notice that the SF and Four 5s-Ks payouts that would normally be 250 are 239, since it's a $5 machine and anything above that would trigger a W-2G. How common is this in Vegas?

I've heard of it, first time I've seen it here.

I saw some in Bally's HL room 5 or so years ago. IIRC, it was the SF payout on JoB. I have the W-2 to prove it wasn't 239 but 250 for four 5's thru K's on the DDB machine I was playing.

Thats a great feature but when they do it on $10 or higher machines it’s just a ripoff .Quote: JoemanI saw some in Bally's HL room 5 or so years ago. IIRC, it was the SF payout on JoB. I have the W-2 to prove it wasn't 239 but 250 for four 5's thru K's on the DDB machine I was playing.

At some of the Southern California Indian casinos they do this.

A few casinos used to have the old upright keno machines where a 6 spot for a quarter was $400, and these had a placard stating "3 coin 6 spot pays $1,199"

I have seen that many times around Las Vegas on the $5 machines. They just want to keep it as a non forced taxable event.
At my age, a "Life In Prison" sentence is not much of a deterrent.

Just wondering what the algorithm is. Is it something like Payouts of $1201-1250 are rounded down to the highest multiplier such that payout is <$1200?

Full pay Pick ‘Em Poker has an 1199-coin payout for the straight flush. This only helps to avoid a W-2G on dollar- (which are quite rare), even though the same payout is used on nickel-, dime-, and quarter-denominations.
Not all games use this rule… I have hit quad Aces for $1200 betting dollars on Triple Bonus Plus. I have also hit a $1200 “jackpot” that brought me back to even while playing a high limit slot.
[Edit: brought, not bring]

Jokers Wild has a bank of 25c 9/6 DDB machines that pay $1199 for a royal. So, here's a case where they actually increased the payout, but just up to the W-2G limit.

This reminds me of some quarter Royal “progressives” that max out at $1199, or maybe $1199.99. Atlantis Reno had some non-FP games, and Peppermill Reno had some FP games including NSUD. I think they both made reference to taxes or the Taxman. Not sure if they still exist…

Peppermill and Rail City have quarter 1199 royals.
