The contest this week at videopoker.com is called:

Face Card Frenzy

I have no idea what it is about, but I'm guessing it's something about face cards. And a frenzy of 'em. But I could be wrong.

It is normally a "gold card holder only" game, but this week it's open in the contest for anyone that has an account.

I've yet to hit anything decent, but I did notice one thing. Many of the standard pays are elevated, including these, (TDB):
Royal: 6,000
A's with 2/3/4: 6,000
A's with J: 6,000
That means if you are playing quarters you have a significantly higher chance of getting a W2G.

And I finally got a good enough hand to copy the screen:

Garbage.

Literally almost every other new VP game.

Double the bet, increase some of the pays and add some new conditional pays. Increase the Variance to a ridiculous degree, 4OaKs or bust, add a very small percentage to the return that is almost certainly lost due to strategy errors. Same old song and dance.

The only somewhat new game I have seen on there, played, and liked is Six-Card Poker. The other one that adds extra cards to the deck on Quad draws is okay, too, I guess. At least those are new concepts.

I'm not so sure. I generally despise any game that has double the cost, mostly because I find it very difficult to overcome those costs. But with this I seem to do much better. I've often found that for me I often get a "win" only about one out of 4 sessions in games like this, but not with this one.

I've played 4 sessions now, (100 hands each), and I've come out ahead on every one. The last game I played I got aces with a kicker twice for 6K each time and ended up after 100 hands with just shy of 18,000.

Where most games have either short term chances for multipliers or bonus pays for the high hands this game has a lot more chance at even low hands making a difference. Getting a dealt flush or straight isn't that uncommon, and with this game, (at 10 games a hand), that's 600 or 500 credits, respectively. The FH is 70, plus the chance for bonuses too. And even a measly 5-k 4OAK nets 450.

Could be just a fluke I did as well as I have, but I'd sure like to have that kind of luck in the casino.

Four sessions is extremely insignificant and I should also mention that you are almost certainly running better than expectation to hit AWAK twice in 1,000 hands. That's well ahead of expectation regardless of the game.

Okay, so it's 5x or 6x the bet, which it sometimes also is on, "Normal," games. I also look at the inflated paytables with special pays and it occurs to me that they made this double the bet just because that is what they do. You could easily have the same concept with a seven or eight coin bet without inflating any pays on the lower end to balance it out. Alternatively, you could keep the higher pays on the low end and keep the high end the same with the exception of the added FH or 4OaK-kicker pays.

I don't know, I'm sure there are some people who would enjoy this game. You really can't base much off of four sessions. Out of my first three, I ran under 60% twice and one of those was under 50%...doesn't mean anything other than there is a ton of variance.
