Paytable:

Hand:

Redraw:

wow.. 2 straight flushes, and a 5oak.
Love getting these on vultured DW machines with 13/16 paytables since they pay the most out of all the variants for SF/5oak.

Also, ALMOST got quad 2s for the 7x :(

my printed strat sheet only has FP dw, LDW, and Illinois DW.
so I guessed for 13/16 dw.
I figured 2 coins payout for a flush isn't worth holding the straight flush.

wizard's vp page says:

Holding 5822 = 3.276596 EV
3522 is also 3.276596 EV?? ===> huh? Same as 5822??
22 -> 3.119766 EV

At least I didn't give up that much EV by just holding 22.

358 are suited, so it seems to me that the only difference would be the ranks needed to make a straight.
With 3522, you need A, 4, 6, or 7
With 5822, you need 4, 6, 7, or 9

I would have held the pair of 2s and would never have even questioned I was doing it wrong.

Higher straight flush pays tends to make Deuces strategy more difficult.

for 3522, one of the cards you might need is a 2.
you're cannibalizing the wild card? (or whatever the word I'm looking for is called.)

I discovered that strategy changes based on the pay table, so I have been using the Video Poker Strategy Calculator to review the proper strategy before and during play.

The strategy for this pay table:

Same number of outs either way. As ThatDonGuy said, you needed one of the four Clubs or either of the two remaining wild Deuces to complete the straight.

True, but 53 is a one-gapper while 85 is a two-gapper, so you get an out back because you can make a wider range of straight flushes with fewer gaps in the non-wilds. Note, that for example, 8622 would be a better draw than 8522, and 8722 would be better still.

Here, you have six outs either way: two deuces and four non-deuce clubs.

I would also have held only 22 but I don't play VP.
