I've been studying the Wizard's optimal 9/6 Jacks or Better strategy and practicing at a free site which gives the best play for each hand and relative rankings of all the possible plays I regularly have a scenario where I start with an ace, a suited high card (king or jack today) and a suited low card (9 or 6 today), and two other unpaired/unsuited low cards. I go to keep only the ace and the suited high card, but am then told that the optimal strategy is to keep all three suited cards. In the case of suited AK6s, it states .5467 if keeping all three and .5375 if only keeping AKs. Is this correct and, if so, which of the Wizard's basic strategy rules/exceptions does this fall under?

Thanks!

That's wrong. You always keep the two suited high cards. There are no exceptions to this in 9/6 Jacks. Are you sure you are paying full coin and that there is a bonus for the Royal?

Yes, both of those conditions apply.

It's gotta be a bug in their software.

The Wizard's iPhone app says keeping AKs is worth .5713 while keeping AK6s is worth .5467

out of curiosity, what is the value differential if one of the low/unsuited cards is a 10?

Haven't hit one in a while so I'm not sure off hand. I did some more "research" and it seems that, over the 100 or so hands I've played, matches the Wizard in terms of best plays so I think I'll stick to that one.

Surprisingly, it's not. I found the site he is playing on, and it produces ER values in "total amount of credits".

So for a 5 credit wager, a flush draw with 2 high cards would have an ER of ~6.38 while if you were wagering 1 credit, it would display a return of ~1.2766.

But since VPStudent quoted values like .5467 for AK6s, it's obvious he is practicing on the machine only one credit at a time.

The RF payout for a single credit wager is only 250 for 1.

If the Royal only pays 250 for 1, AK6s > AKs.
