If hitting a royal flush happens once every 40,000+ hands does that mean per machine if you continue playing the same machine?
Or if I jump from machine to machine could I still expect a royal every 40,000+ hands I play? Let's say I play 30,000 hands at home practicing and then go to Vegas would I be wrong to expect to hit a royal after 10,000 hands or so?
Thanks

Well if that were true you should play 39,999 hands at home and then go hit your royal. It doesn`t work that way.40,000 is just a long term average, you could play 200,000 hands at home or in the casino but it doesn`t mean you are any more likely to hit a royal on your next hand.

As I have said hundreds of times, the machines don't have a memory. You could go four million hands without a royal and you would still be no closer to hitting one than the guy next to you who hit one his last play.

I actually played 39,999 hands at home without a royal.
Went to a casino and hit a royal on a 25 cent machine on first hand. I am now up to 20, 614 hands at home without a royal.
I intend to play a Dollar machine next time. Trick is to keep very accurate record and stop at exactly 39,999. My cousin lost count and hit his royal at home. SIGH

"Hitting a royal flush happens once every 40,000+ hands" really means, "every time you play a hand, you have 1 chance in 40,000+ of hitting a royal flush." Of course, that assumes you are using proper strategy - obviously, it's zero if you keep cards that make it impossible to get a royal flush (for example, "If I get any cards 2-9, keep at least one; otherwise, if I am not dealt a royal, then I have cards from at least two different suits, so keep one card of two different suits"). You can also improve your chances significantly by playing a "royal or nothing" strategy (keep only the cards you need to draw to a royal - for example, if you have a seven-high straight flush, discard all five cards); a monte carlo simulation shows an average of one royal in every 24,000 hands or so, but you take a significant hit in your overall return.
