Quote: AxelWolfPerhaps WOV should host a Sigma derby challenge
You just missed the annual Vimfptucky Derby at the D. Next chance in October 2016.
The above image was taken on September 4th, 2015 by me upstairs at the D.
I have never been there when it wasn't there, but I heard they took it out and had to go see if it was still there.
It was still there.
Quote: WizardofnothingCan it be purchased anywhere? Has any one ever seen one for sale?
You should contact MGM and offer to buy it. I wager they are gonna be pretty anal about it and not want to give it up.
"Well, we are not gonna use it, but we don't want you to have it either."
I'd say $8000 would be a reasonable price. Offer them 4k first.

I think it could be had for less than that. Keep in mind it is broken, the things take up a lot of space, and I doubt are good money makers. That said, I would offer $1,000.

You would be surprised how well those did. VSR showed an updated model at the gaming show this past year. It was a prototype but kept the classic look and feel of the old one.
If the old machines could have been updated for TITO tickets you would have seen many more. No casino wants to deal with the coin anymore.

Doesn't The D still have a working one? I would assume they would be interested in it, if only for the parts.
Quote: WizardofnothingI'm building a man cave and that might be the absolute best piece to have- any idea who I would contact at mgm ?
No. I would just do a cold call to the director of slots. They might just throw it away so don't wait too long.
Quote: WizardofnothingSorry I should have mentioned that earlier that I was bounced around so just assumed it wasn't for sale
Even if they did want to sell it the price would be high. I am guessing that machine makes them about $1800 a day when running.
But it's a subtle thing and is not easily captured even by similar designs. Maybe it's the racing aspect and horses.
I would like to see someone try a circular gladiator chariot race game --Ben Hurr style with casualties.
Quote: rxwineI think the secret of the Derby is, although a machine, there is a sense of common participation while everyone faces each other.
I agree. Whoever designed that thing did a great job. I think some people probably like it for nostalgic reasons.

I even had fun picking the three longest shots and losing every single bet for a half hour.
I assume it meets the legal (according to the Compact with the Cabazon Band of Mission Indians, which contols the casino) definition of "gaming device":
"a slot machine, including an electronic, electromechanical, electrical, or video device that, for consideration, permits individual play with or against that device or the participation in any electronic, electromechanical, electrical, or video system to which that device is connected; the playing of games thereon or therewith, including, but not limited to, the playing of facsimiles of games of chance or skill; the possible delivery of, or entitlement by the player to, a prize or something of value as a result of the application of an element of chance; and a method for viewing the outcome, prize won, and other information regarding the playing of games thereon or therewith."

Cool. Let's see if they managed to find an attractive price point for operation, enough to keep people playing, and not drive them off.

Yeah it was roped off so I couldn't get close enough to see the paytables or anything on the screens.
(that picture is actually not mine, that I pulled off of their website after I got curious and tried to look it up, mine didn't turn out that well).
Quote: WizardofnothingTrop has the right demographic for that
Why do you say that? Who does it usually appeal to? I frequent the Trop quite a bit, so I am curious lol.
Sigma derby appeals to just about every male on the planet. Look at it, it's a giant toy. To bad it's not player banked or progressive. Assuming it takes off, eventually there will be an AP opportunity. There will probably be better options available but F it, Sigma derby it is.Quote: GandlerWhy do you say that? Just curious who makes this game? Are the pattons no longer valid?
Sigma, I really miss them.

if you can drink large quantities of beer, then sigma derby is definitely +ev
Quote: WizardofnothingDidn't Caesars have that back in the day?
I remember that Caesars had a similar version with chariots, cant remember if it was the same size as Sigma, my memory is telling me it was a smaller machine, but hey I was 21 and loaded on the booze. This had to have been in 1994ish.

Where's NASCAR derby? That would be fun especially if they can make the cars crash and switch lanes.

Any patent from Sigma Derby is long gone and expired. Don't be surprised if you see a similar machine later this year.
As far as Demo
I would say at Wynn it wouldn't get as much play or at like the Atlantic club. I think that game is more 21-50 male
And to be honest probably more of a low roller game I don't see Asians playing it for any length of time
I'd say most people who play that have a gaming budget of 200-1500 per trip
But those are just my market research assumptions

However I doubt we will get anything I'm interested in.
FYI I love the sounds sigma made when you got dealt a pair or better or hit 4oak+ also loved the buttons and cards.
I love Sigma.
Quote: WizardofnothingI knew I saw chariots - thanks for confirming and yes it would have been 93-96 that I remember seeing it first time at Caesars,

It's hard to calculate the value of certain things. Kind of like the Bellagio fountains can bring people into that area - and once in the area, they may go into a nearby casino. As opposed to places on the Strip where there is nothing to stop people outside.
Some low roller may be playing the Derby, not go home as soon and the spouse is losing more money on something else because of the extra time spent there.

Yeah, it's somewhat a loss leader in Vegas. The average bet is maybe $1-2 a race? That's only $6-12/hr per spot for the house with the rough D hold of 20%. But it's a big deal if it let's the spouse blow another $100+/hr max betting penny slots and the like. When I come across it, it looks like people mostly looking to get drunk without spending a bundle.
I still think they need to have different themes. NASCAR, Dogs, Dirt bikes, etc etc depending on the location.

Turtles and hares every other lane. The turtles would run slow but steady, the hares would sprint, then stop, then sprint.
I think if you modified the starting gate, different things could pop up and race, giving you a multitude of possibilities.
(Sorry, I only think of this now when it's already been redeveloped)
Quote: AxelWolfThe new one is faster and no coins, I actually think it will do well. Hopefully they have lots more betting options.

Totally agree on the themes! This would allow the game to fit into so many places.

Anyway, before I go to Vegas, I always hope that Sigma Derby is still there. Based on that facebook group, it looks like MGM and D still has it. Good news!
And, that new game looks cool. Hopefully it's still around in June too.
