Does anyone know of any Cruiseline/Cruiseship casinos that offer pai gow tiles as a table game?

I doubt that you'd ever see tiles on a cruise, except maybe one cruising the Pacific, with Asia as a destination.

I recently took a cruise and it didn't have PG Poker, so what chance does tiles have? Then again, it was only 5 days, from New Jersey to Bermuda.

FYI: I wrote a full review of the cruise, ship and casino, here:
https://wizardofvegas.com/forum/off-topic/other-casinos/6715-royal-caribbean-cruise-line-cruise-and-casino-review/

To summarize, the casino had 6 BlackJack, 3 Roulette, 1 Caribbean Stud, 2 Three Card Poker, 1 Let It Ride, 1 Craps, and 1 Poker ($2/$5 No Limit). I estimate there were about 150 slot machines.

Even out of east Asia I highly doubt you'd see tiles on a cruise ship. There are only a few tables of the game in all of Macau. It is my impression that in China pai gow tiles is more of a private gambling game. Perhaps like dominoes is here.

I've spoken with countless Chinese dealers about tiles (I even bought a few some Asian tile sets for Chinese New years), and ONLY the older generation is really appreciative; the younger ones are like, "What's this? It's so old-school, so old fart generation" (although very appreciative of the gesture.)
When asked "Do ever play tiles?" the answer is "only at family get-togethers, - when grandpa attends'
Then what do you play when you gamble? I asked...
"Baccarat - at Palace Station" is consistently the answer.

I also think that Tiles is a tough game to deal on a cruise ship because of various conditions of the ocean. Most other casino games have easier game protection to slight bumps in waves. Modern cruise ships won't even have that be an issue, but tiles are very slick and slide off easily in perfect settings. Any other movement is likely to cause tiles to fall over and be exposed.

That being said, I agree with all the other posters. It just doesn't have viability as a casino game outside of casinos that specifically target Asian markets (and WoV members). I was at HSI this past weekend, and finally asked a dealer how many white players play the game. He said it was myself, a guy who plays the DC in craps, and one guy from Ohio, who doesn't come down often. RARELY, a white person will sit down and try to learn the game in a few hands. Success rate... well take a guess on that one.

Tilt -

Waves and rough seas are not an issue. For if they were, you probably wouldn't see Roulette or Craps in a ship casino.

If "sliding tiles" were an issue, the tiles could easily be made out of a different material and/or the table surface could be made non-slip.

I've been on a number of cruises and the motion of the boat is almost negligible. You could stack all 32 tiles in a pile and normal boat motion would not knock it over.

However, from what those on the other side tell me, tiles is one of the most vulnerable games to cheating in the casino. Many simply won't put it in because they don't want to take the risk. Security on a cruise ship casino has got to be pretty minimal, so I could see them getting nervous about putting in tiles, even if there were sufficient demand for it.

You know why its out of fashion? Difficulty of play is one reason. The main reason, from what i gathered from the older generation, is that cheating is very common. They wouldn't elaborate, but when I brought up the topic, they would always say "play for a small amount, for fun only"

You know, Palace Station does have a lot of bacc players, but I think Gold Coast might have them beat. It is like Little Macau in there.

Just after saying that this happens. What are the odds?

I wouldn't call that normal boat motion.

The WizardofOdds is asking what are the odds? I'd say if anyone has a shot at handicapping the odds for this, it would be you. :)

things might have changed but some of the norweigan cruise line boats use to have tables that were interchangeable......one of the rotations offered was paigow poker or pai gow or mini bacc.

Nah. That task should go to Charles Mousseau.

Back on topic: How about taking a set of tiles and looking for like-minded passengers? You could then all take turns banking.

Haha touche. I was looking for the word "rhetorical" but kept thinking of the word "hypothetical" and knew that wasn't the right word in my original post, so eventually i just left it out. Thanks for setting me straight.

It does make you wonder what the scene in the casino would have been on the Titanic. People grabbing for money and chips as they are hanging on vertically. It would be a lovely sight I'm sure...

Norwegian has it.

From http://www.ncl.com/nclweb/cruiser/cmsPages.html?pageId=CasinoPR_2 :

"Twenty different tables include roulette, craps, blackjack, several types of poker games, plus games that other cruise lines don’t offer, such as Pai-Gow poker, Pai-Gow Tiles, mini-baccarat, and, for those who request it, a big baccarat table. "
