My local casino has a free baccarat tournament each week for 60 players (tickets are drawn out of a box on who gets to play). I've been lucky enough to play in four so far, finishing in 2nd place in one of them.

The rules:
Each 6 player table has 2 winners (1st place get 600,000 Korean won(~$583US), 2nd gets 400,000 (~$388US)
Each player gets $2000 in tourney chips.
Only play 15 rounds. You must bet a minimum of $10 to a max of $1000 on each of the rounds. Max bet on the tie bet is $100, and if you bet tie, you also must place a bet on either banker or player.
Players take turns betting first (although sometimes novices place their bets even before its their turn) Also, I've actually seen some players use this as an angle by purposely taking a long time to place their bet when its their turn, hoping others will just place their bets before them, which some often do.

In my 3 losses, 2 were on the final 15th round where I was forced to take the opposite of the player 2nd in chips, and one was where two players were just way out in front where I had to make a move in the 10th/11th round. In my 2nd place win, I won by taking the opposite of the player 2nd in chips in the final 15th round.

I took the advice from a post by GBV (susp) (thanks if you are reading):

1) Conserve your capital in the early stages of the tournament.
2) Towards the end bet as aggressively as possible to get in the lead.
3) If you get in the lead, copy the betting decisions of your nearest challengers to lock in a win.

Some players take a martingale approach to accumulating chips early, some others just go for it max betting. Downside for risking all too early, is of course not only being knocked out, but a lot of times it comes down to a flip in the final 15th round anyway.

I haven't found much info on the internet about how to play Baccarat Tournaments optimally. I know position is very important as well, especially in the later and final rounds- I know if I'm in the 3rd seat (and no one busts out of the trny) its even more important to have a chip lead, since I will be first to act in the final 15th round.

Was hoping others here could give some advice.

Thanks.
