Posted this in Off-Topic by mistake. Most of the big baccarat tables I've seen in high limit areas do not have minimum signs. Are these tables the "normal" $100 minimum I've seen in most high limit rooms, or even higher?

I think just $100. Asian players are known for a wide bet spread, and a higher minimum might put them off.

Steve Wynn was able to challenge the $500 minimum required by the Gaming Commission for the high limit private rooms. He had Asian players who would literally jump from $5000 to $50. They must think that they can bet at the lower limits until their mojo returns. He felt the the NGC did have a write to require a minimum market to enter the room, but not to set table limits. The casino would require a minimum marker themselves, so they don't mind the NGC requirement. As I understand it, it was previously $1 million, but they reduced it to $300K.

I think you mean a minimum marker, not market. Hypothetically, couldn't there be casino abuse of the marker rule? Suppose they preferred the Jim Crow Vegas of the 1950's. It would be easy to bring that back by denying markers to whoever was not welcome for frivolous reasons.

Yes of course.

I think the NGC is unduly concerned about the private gaming. Most casinos can't afford it, and the ones that can are unlikely to try and cheat the state. It wouldn't be cost effective to let in the people with less than $100K to gamble. There is really very little chance of the state getting abused. But as government employees they are paid to obsess about stuff like this.

While they may have built this town on the gambler with the big swinging d*ck, to maintain it they need to appeal to the gambler who does not want to be seen.

Last few times I was at Venetian/Palazzo, table mins were $300. This, while Wynncore was $100. Don't understand why the mins were higher.

Do any non-asian high rollers play the game at all?

There are a few, but it is overwhelmingly Asians. It's all about tradition. Asians grow up on the game, while Americans grow up on blackjack. Europeans tend to gravitate to roulette.

Google "Smart Baccarat" for the (now defunct) blog of a high-rolling American baccarat player.
