Headed to Vegas tomorrow. Please give any advice to the low roller BJ player, craps player, drunk. Where to play, where not to play, staying at NYNY. Love the site, love the forum.

You can play $3 full-pay (3:2) BJ at the ultra-low roller Slots of Fun next to Circus Circus. They also have $3 craps out on the sidewalk. Warning, its not swanky though.

Sorry, this question is more geared toward BJ. I assume that a $5 min craps game with 3x4x5 odds (low roller) is easy to find on the Strip even after dark. But if there are some bad craps tables please let me know. Also, cocktails service factors in (for me). To put it another way, where is the best low roller BJ game (including split), MC, Trop, Bill's? Thanks again for the advice.

Do they still pay out in coin?

You should be able to find $5 craps at Monte Carlo in off-peak hours. Maybe $5 BJ at Excalibur, but definitely at Trop or Hooters over there.

Last time I played at Excalibur (2 years ago) they had some really bad rules. Let me know if things have changed. I would love to play in that dump with real 3-2 BJ. Thanks.

More than likely not since its an MGM property. Almost everything $5 (or less) is 6:5 BJ on the strip. The only exceptions would be up on the north end (Sahara, Strat, Riv).

If you want good odds on low-roller 21, you'll need to go downtown.

Check out the Wizard's blackjack survey to find exactly what you're looking for. If I were you, I would head to Ellis Island for the huge draft beers they bring and decent BJ. Hooters has some low minimums but with terrible rules and you can never get a seat.

The new ACE bus service makes it much easier to get to downtown where you can find better rules. The El Cortez still has single deck full pay blackjack (on several tables). El Cortez is the original casino in Vegas, the only one that opened before the end of WWII. Don't be put off by the n'hood, they have good security.

Bottom line is the strip really won't give you good rules unless you play $25 minimum. Even at that you have to look. Go to the blackjack survey on the home page of this site and sort by House Edge. The lowest will be blackjack switch, but after that you will only find for $5 minimum El Cortez and Hacienda which you need a car to get to.

The rule at Hooters is never to sit near a dealer in orange shorts. Find one wearing flannel. If you want to talk with girls in orange shorts, buy chicken wings.

info on ace bus???

and yea hooters has a decent 2deck 3:2 10min
there are quite a few 6 deck 3:2 pretty low house edge tables on the strip. see the survey

Yes. Ellis Island. Good beer and food. Sure MainStreeStation has better beer but its downtown.
Not Hooters. Its a dump.
Stratosphere is a bargain: 3:2 and low minimums even at the poolside tables, but once there where else are you going to go.

Check out the Sahara's website, they have "dollar days" promos with $1 BJ

For info on ACE and other options search the web for "RTC Vegas" and go on from there. As I understand, on any curbside ticket vending machine you can get a 5 day pass valid on every bus route in Vegas, I forget what it costs.

The ACE and the DEUCE costs $15 for a three day pass. This pass includes both systems, plus you also have access to the entire network of regular buses (although you are unlikely to use any of these except to go to the Palms or Chinatown).

The ACE has four pickup stops on the Strip depending if you are the Southbound or Northbound side of Las Vegas Blvd.
(1) Mandalay Bay - Opposite Side of LV Blvd
(2) Excalibur - MGM Grand near Showcase Mall
(3) Bellagio - Paris
(4) Fashion Show Mall - Wynn
These ACE stops are 1/2 - 1 mile apart, which turned out to be the source of a lot of complaints. DEUCE stops are more like 300-400 yards apart.

There is also an ACE stop at the convention center, at the backside of Sahara, and several downtown locations including right in the middle of the Fremont Street Experience. The ACE stop is 3 blocks from the DEUCE stop on Fremont Street.

The start of ACE operations was supposed to mean that the DEUCE bus was supposed go from Mandalay Bay and end at Sahara Avenue, but due to numerous complaints the city still runs it to downtown. But the ACE is much faster and the same ticket is good on either bus. But since there are more DEUCE stops, you may not have to walk as far. Also the ACE is the only bus to go further south than Mandalay Bay. The DEUCE no longer goes to the car rental, the Town Center Mall, or the Premium Outlet store to the South.

The ACE now goes to both offprice outlet malls, one on the south end, and the other at downtown.

From what I've heard, the $1 BJ at Sahara only pays even money on a natural. Not a great game to play. Better to find a $3 3:2 game somewhere.

What the website fails to mention is that the $1 BJ does not pay 3:2.

It doesn't pay 6:5 either.

IT PAYS EVEN MONEY!

I didn't know that.

Still, as the wise man said, "You get what you pay for." At $1 minnimum I'd expect the most god-awful rules.

You and I were responding at the same time.

Sahara has 3:2 BJ on the other side of the room - at the $5 tables.

But there are other items on Sahara's $1 deal that are good bargains: $1 beer, $1 dogs, $1 shots. And weird as it is, that stuff is available closer to the $5 tables.

They have the shufflemaster video BJ games set at $1 in downtown and they pay 3:2.

IMHO if you sit with some other people at one of these machines for small stakes BJ, you can still get drinks and it feels more like a real table than a machine built into a bar.

The video machines deal separate decks to each player. It is 6 decks with 66% penetration. That increases the HA advantage somewhat, but at least you are getting full pay. I just figure why play a live game at reduced pay for such small stakes.

I don't think anyone has addressed craps money management strategy with a low bankroll. If I have less than about $500 to risk in craps, I don't play because I can't take the max odds on enough numbers, but you could just play pass with max odds or one come bet with max odds and do ok. Money at PaiGow Poker also lasts longer usually because you get so many ties. One way to test all this out is to go to BoDog and practice with certain bet amounts. See what works for your stake.

If you have $500 and bet $5 pass with 3, 4, 5X odds, you can play for a couple of hours with very, very little "risk of ruin".
