I recently saw the meter for 3CP at one of my local casinos getting relatively high, so I wanted to find the breakeven point. The pay schedule for this game is different from the one analyzed by the Wizard on his excellent 3CP page, so I had a go at it myself. This version of the progressive gives you a measly 6 bucks back for a straight, in exchange reducing the payouts for a straight flush and a 3 of a kind:
Mini-royal in spades: jackpot ($100 envy)
H/D/C Mini-royal: $500 ($25 envy)
Straight flush: $70
3 of a kind: $60
Straight: $6

Here's a screenshot of the spreadsheet that I used, which shows the breakeven point to be $10,080, less $175 for each additional player at the table:

You can see in the formula box the formula used to compute the break-even point, based on all of the other variables. It's convoluted and probably not the easiest way to do it, but I just wrote out an equation on some some scrap paper in front of me, solved for X, and plugged it in. I can send the spreadsheet if requested.

I plugged in the numbers from the paytable used in the Wizard's analysis the first time around, and the result agreed with his, so I'm fairly confident it's correct for this paytable. Please correct me if you think otherwise, and use this information to your advantage :).

Ha! A google search for "three card poker progressive break-even" reveals that miplet solved this problem more than 2 years ago here. Good to know my answer agrees with him.

Additional bit of info: in order to overcome the house edge at this game on the Ante/Play bet (which uses the 4-3-1 Ante bonus) and make the entire game (less the Pair Plus) break-even, the meter needs to reach $14312.15, again minus $175 per additional player.

Assuming a $5 Ante bet, of course.

Then factor in Fed and State taxes (if applicable) and it would have to be even higher.

Damn you for bringing reality into this discussion!
