My friend was in AC last weekend and hit a royal at Pai Gow playing $5 bonus.

He said he pushed the hand because he played it a straight with a pair of queens up.

I asked him how close he was to the Royal Match with the Royal Flush. He had no idea what I was talking about.

For those who don't know, if you have a Royal Flush with a suited KQ, you get paid 2000-1 instead of 150-1.

So he is going to call Borgata and ask them to review the tape. Are there any laws about this? Is Borgata required to look for him, would gaming be? Any help would be appreciated. By my count, he has a 1 in 19 chance of having hit it. Is that even right? (He knows he had exactly 2 queens)

Thanks!

the royal flush with royal match would require
suited 10-J-Q-K-A AND K-Q suited.
if he had the royal flush with royal match
he would not have been able to maintain a royal straight flush playing QQ on top.

additionally, without filing a complaint with the floor,
i do not think the casinos in NJ would agree, or be required,
to review the tape after you have left the table.

You're forgetting the joker which is allowed. That makes it possible.

10c, jc, qc, ac, joker, qd, kd

I believe you would play that hand Straight with QQ. And it would be a Royal + Royal Match.

You can use the joker for your royal flush to achieve the royal match. Its possible but I would doubt it also. I would also doubt the casino would go back days after the fact to see if it should had paid out a couple of thousand more dollars.

It would be $10,000 - the $750 he won more. Everyone at the table would also be entitled for like another $950 or $900 in Envy which I'm sure Borgata would not try too hard to track down.

It has only been about 24-48 hours...

I doubt the casino will do anything without compelling evidence or outside influence.

I.E. If you're gonna try, I suggest a written letter to the Casino Control Commission, with a copy sent to the Borgata.

Then again, considering the envy thing, if you really did have such a hand, why didn't the other players speak up?

Don't forget the third copy to Dan Lubin.

Exactly. If there were other players at the table, I'd think they'd of spoke up..
And FinsRule is right, he'd HAVE to of had the joker to be able to be Straight/QQ with a RF/RM...

There are plenty of reasons why people might not have.

Drunk
Didn't notice
Excited about the royal

I mean, obviously the odds are that he didn't have it. But a 1 in 19 shot at 10,000 is worth over $500. So he might as well try...

I would suggest a letter to the casino first without any cc or bcc. Just see what the Borgata does before raising the ante.

This exact scenario happened in Horseshoe Casino, in Council Bluffs, IA. The customer had the Royal Flush/Royal Match, but they missed the initial payout. He left the table a couple hours later when the dealer realized that it might have been the big one. They reviewed the tape, sure enough, he had it. They actually had to call all the customers who were playing at that table and tell them instead of $50 they won $2000 and the guy went from a $1500 payout to a $20,000 payout.

How would you like that call? It's also another reason you should always play with your card...

Borgata said "come in and we'll take a look". Classic casino answer. Always want you coming back. They probably already looked and know he didn't hit it, lol.
