Here is yet another fun an exciting WoV contest. With this one there is not thinking required, and the top 100 members are automatically entered.

Here is how it works. After the game the winner can be found in the tables below by looking up terminal digits of the score of each team. For example, if the final score were NYG 24, Pats 30, then you would look up Giants 4 and Pats 0, and the winner would be Jufo81. I had to break it into two tables because one would have been too wide for the screen. The top 100 members read like a book, with Nareed first, Paco second, ... , thecesspit 6th, ... , odiousgambit 11th, ... ,Aussie 100th. However, the row and column headers were randomized (with 10 playing cards).

The winner will get a free dinner with the Wizard, with mystery gifts, or some other equivalent mutually agreeable idea. If that doesn't interest the winner, a donation to a charity of the winner's choice is also an option.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the free entry! Maybe I need to search this site to see whether you ever posted applicable summaries of your NFL data. I'm wondering how often a team's score ends in 5, which I have for the Pats. I can see a 35 total with 5 TDs and 5 PATs, but I don't know how often a final 5 is obtained some other way. My Giant's number is 7, and my brain immediately zeroed in on a 7 total, though 3*(6+1)+2*3=27 looks like another plausible way to get there. Yep, a final score of Pats by 35-27 would work for me.

Do you have a summary table of frequencies of score final digits? Would you expect the pattern for the SuperBowl to be different from other games?

Yes! It is rather dated, but it appears about 1/3 of the way down in my "Ask the Wizard" questions about sports betting.

As an example, you have Giants 7 Pats 5. If we treat the Giants as the home team your probability of winning would be 0.0083. If we treat the Pats as the home team it would be 0.0064. So, split the difference and you're at 0.0074.

Now,
I do know for a fact that member "7winner" passed away last March.
I saw his box at the Riverside National Cemetery. (My daughter's boy friend's friend of a friend's Dad)

Will that now make Aussie #99 for those that are living?

Well, thanks for making me watch and have an interest in the game. I really didn't want to see either team in the bowl. But if I had to choose, I'd go with the Patriots as Brady's family is helping out Sid the Kid with his long term health issues.

I like the Patriots 31, Giants 22: Pats with 4 TDs and a FG, Giants with 3 FG, 2TDs, but a failed 2 point conversion late in the game. And oh yeah, a failed on-side kick.

If I win, I'll have to come to Vegas to collect.

Yep, as my earlier musings suspected, the final 7 is as good as it gets, but a final 5 is almost the worst possible. In sum, my +EV is slightly below 2/3 the average. Still, the entry price is right!

But they're only terminal digits. 28 and 38 are common enough scores. With these offenses, 46 or 56 might be possible.

Not that anyone asked, but I think MrCasinoGames has the best shot with 7-4. I could see the game going 27-24 Pats. Hopefully it won't thought, as I bet against a 3-point margin of victory.

Wizard, I can't remember your total score formula. Does it predict 27-24 pats or 30-27 pats? 28-24? I dunno, I'm sure it's right around there.

You have to balance the following:
1. Individual scores should add up to the total, in this case 55.
2. Difference should be the spread, in this case Pats by 3.
3. Individual scores should reflect 1 or 2 field goals and the rest touchdowns.

SOOPOO just told me about this thread. Super fun! But I have a question. Even though I only have a 1/100 chance to win (or, as according to miplet's chart, a 1/48 chance to win) if I do win is it ok that I partake in the reward dinner later in the year in October? Or is there an expiration date on the prize?

Awesom I just logged on. Perfect timing. I wanna see Madonna.

I rather like Madonna. But, "Vogue"? Really? That song wasn't popular even when it was popular ;)

Very low. And yet two points higher than they should be...

I am very upset, like very. I logged on just before the half time show and they DIDN'T EVEN SHOW IT ONLINE. I was sitting here like an idiot waiting and waiting and waiting and now it's the beginning of the 3rd quarter. WTF???

Super pissed!
OFFICIALLY and justifiably reclaimed my title as SuperHotBlonde!

The half time show sucked, only because Madonna was singing ;).

So, if the Pats score 3 touchdowns and the Giants score a TD and 2 FGs, or just one FG, I'm a winner! Woot!

It's one of my least favorite from her, but you are incorrect about its success:

After its release, "Vogue" reached number one in over 30 countries worldwide, becoming Madonna's biggest hit at that time.[7][8] It was also the best-selling single of 1990,[9] with sales of over six million copies worldwide.[10] In the U.S., massive airplay and sales demand in response to the popular music video in April 1990 made way for "Vogue"'s number 39 debut in the week of April 14. The song shot to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in its sixth week on the chart, displacing Sinéad O'Connor's four-week run in the top spot with "Nothing Compares 2 U". The song also reached number one on the Hot Dance Club Play chart, remaining there for two weeks. On June 28, 1990, "Vogue" was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for sales of two million copies of the physical single across United States.[11] To date, it remains Madonna's best-selling physical single in the country
