With the Wizard's permission I have decided to head up the official WOV NFL Pool 2011. Any one can participate and all are encouraged. There is no charge and the only prize is bragging rights, unless the Wiz wants to autograph a book or something. The web site below is the place to go. The pool is already set up in there. When you go to the site just click on join pool. The proper pool ID is shown below along with the password. You will then need to create a password and Userid to login in week to week to make picks and to check on your progress. The site is really great at tracking your progress and showing results. You can also get automatic emails to remind you to make your picks if you forget. If you miss a game or games it doesn't matter you can still participate, it merely reduces your chances of winning the overall at the end. So lets all get out there and participate and have some fun.

The pool password is stinky23.

Also if you have any questions or problems feel free to post them in this thread and I will do my best to answer or solve them. Remember the first game is tomorrow night so your picks need to be in by then. All picks are with the spread by the way and the spread does not remain live (change during the week).

I'd like to add that I endorse this as an official WoV "thing." My thanks to thlf for getting this going. One thing that may scare some off is the site asks for an Email address. However, I think you can put in anything, just remember as that serves as part of your logon.

The winner will get a mystery prize from me, but mostly bragging rights.

Ok. I'll let my strategy out in advance:

Always pick the Steelers
Always pick whoever plays the Cowboys
All other picks at random.

Yes, I know the spread renders the first two parts meaningless. I understand the concept of "spread" that far anyway...

The main purpose of the email address request is to send you reminders to make your picks. Don't fear, I used this site last year and never got anything from them other than the reminders. Also your email address is never shown anywhere to anyone else. Just use a different name as your ID. It would probably be nice if everyone used there WOV name so we all know who is doing what.

If I get the 52% needed to beat the vig I will be amazed. But I have always wondered and decided to say "why not" this year. One less thing to do before I die. And easier than getting Erin Burnett to go out with me.......

Ok everyone today's the day. Get signed in and start pickin. Nareed I here your fantastic strategy but I don't see you signed in yet. We have eleven people so far but I always see far more experts than that on here. Let's see who can beat the Wiz at his own game. Remember it's totally free and now the Wiz say's there is a mystery prize involved. Is it a house, a car, a personal dinner with da man himself? You won't know if you don't try. Go to the top of this thread for the website and sign in instructions.

Look hard enough. 1 out of 11, eith two clearly not being me, I should be easy enough to spot.

As best as I can tell I entered my picks yesterday, not that it makes any difference.

Thanks for putting this together thlf. I noticed that you can turn off the e-mail notifications if you wish through the profile page. By the way, for anyone who wants to bet some serious money on the NFL, I highly recommend you look at my picks and put your money on the opposite of my selection. I truly suck when it comes to sports betting and I can't tell you how often I've picked a team in my mind and then watched the other team win... it's uncanny.

Will the Wizard go with his home dog surefire 100% gawrawnteed strategy? And what to do with the Colts now that Peyton's place is on the bench? This is going to be an interesting season. Good picking everyone!

The Wizard actually put the pool together, I just volunteered to jeer you guys and gals into joining. So come on, I know I've seen a lot more prognosticators out there. We are up to 13 now. Show us what you've got. Imagine the bragging rights alone. I would be willing to put up a small wager on this myself because I know my abilities but I have to figure out the right incentive.

Last year I participated in this same pool tracker through the Sports Illustrated Hot clicks site. I finished in the top 100 out of 3000 entries. Not braggin though.

You can sign up any time all season long. The downfall is the later you sign up the more games you lose out on. The first game is tonight so in order to get credit for that game you have to sign up before kick off.

They are usually out shortly after the opening lines come out. If you notice the line on Indy right now is 3.5 on this pool. It is actually 8.5 in realty right now due to Manning being out. So the line is not live. However everyone has the same advantage/disadvantage.

Ok Jerry Logan I am not, I will admit it. I think I picked New Orleans more out of my hate for the Packers than any respect for the Saints. Plus I did not have inside info as JL always did. Well we have 18 people signed up now and it's still not too late to join in the fun. As I said the only penalty at this point is that you would lose a possible win from last night. Congrats to all those who picked the Packers. UGH!

I took a total of about 30 seconds to make the picks knowing nothing about any of the teams. I know the last name of 2 NFL QB's and I'll have to revise that if Peyton retires. Nothing but luck... but it's fun and I hope my luck continues.

According to the Pooltracker, Carolina is a 10.5 pt home dog for week #2 (vs. Green Bay). Would the Wizard consider this a good play?

Why are you asking the Wizard? He didn't do all that great in week 1. (I should talk) In my opinion since you didn't ask, I think Carolina performed quite well in week 1. Cam had quite the debut, and they could have won that game outright. I still am not sold though and I will stay away from it.

This year I am placing 1 bet on the most solid game I can find for the week and then let it ride week to week until I either lose or chicken out of betting again. Last week I took the Lions +3 against Tampa Bay. I haven't decided this week yet.

I quite like the Texans and Eagles this week, both at -3, both away. The Texans play the phins, and I don't think Hennepin will be able to shoot out versus the Texans Defence, while the Iggles play Atlanta who seemed woeful versus the Bills. I'll probably be on both. There's two or three home dogs coming of a loss, which some tipsters will tell you are value. I'm not ready to trust the colts this year to do anything, but the miners plus three versus the cowboys might be of interest...

I think the Lions vs. KC at -9 is too many points to give up, and the Steelers -15 vs The Seahawks is crazy, but not crazy enou I'd trust the hawks to cover the spread...

Did my picks even show up for week 1? It was very confusing both setting up the pool and participating in it. After reading this post I assumed I screwed up somehow and was not counted, so I didn't do anything for week 2. Is it too late to jump in at week 3?

it seems you participated but wound up submitting various names. 'The-wizard' got his picks in.

And here I had been thinking this was some sort of brilliant maneuver on your part, winning as an alter ego if necessary or something [g]

Hey wiz, you can still continue to participate, but I noticed what they do is call all of your picks from week 2 losses. You would have a lot of ground to make up to catch up. But then you could really brag.

I hope the Wizard joins, even if a few weeks late. We could keep an adjusted total without the first two weeks, just for giggles.

As for week three, Buffalo is a 9.5 pt. home dog vs. the Pats, and the Colts are 10.5 pt home dogs to the Steelers. Are these good plays Wizard? Also, KC is a 14.5 pt. dog to the Chargers in San Diego. It's almost college like. Is KC that bad?

KC have scored ten points, had 99 hung on them by two play off outsiders (Lions and Bills), lost their starting running back, And given up nine turnovers.

The Chargers need their running back to play like he was taught, other wise they'll be fine. They'd be better without their head coach whose an huger under achiever. But that's a different story. San Diego should get after KC early.

Yeah the line is about right, but I always find it hard to give up two touchdowns in the NFL though... I may look at the first half spread.. If it's seven points, I'll take the Chargers.
