Info out now is vague. Son is postulating that maybe Billups lost big $$ at poker, and might have mentioned which players would be getting more or less playing time to his Mafia buddies to make his poker debts go away.

Head coach can EASILY fix some of these player prop bets. Joel Embiid only played 20 minutes last night. If that was ‘planned’ by the HC but not public that info could be worth $$$$$$. Maybe another $.

Anything is possible. But he hit a bunch of field goals, right? And he’s on the fringes of being an NFL kicker, so worth literally millions if he makes them and hangs around the league.

Any game can be fixed by a variety of people using a variety of techniques. Just must be rare that the risk/reward ratio is not well over 1.

I have general confidence that win/loss outcomes of NHL games, as an example, are not fixed. Same for NBA, NFL, MLB, MSL, etc…. A particular player prop is of course way more vulnerable.

Recently some NFL coaches have been taking the ball first instead of deferring, which has been the SOP last few years. If you KNOW a HC will not defer, and the other HC will defer, that is HUGE info for who might score first.

because of the tremendous expansion of legal sports gambling sports is not what it used to be

it used to be mainly about cheering for your home team or your favorite team

now it's so much about gamblers trying to gain an edge anyway they can

the vast majority of them will end up losers no matter what they do or think they can do - probably around 99% of them will be net losers

of course, I've done my share of sports betting so who am I to talk - ?

but it seems like a lot of the fun of sports is gone

now there is a great deal of suspicion that somehow the games are rigged - even if the vast majority of them obviously are not

and of course prop bets can easily be rigged if pro athletes have any intention or desire to do that

maybe some will do it just because of the temptation of it, because it's fun to them - even if the money they make from it is a tiny amount compared to their salaries

I won't say that sports is being ruined - but there are definitely negative effects of the sports gambling juggernaut

some info on the mind boggling hi tech used in the rigged poker game to strip the "fish" from their $$$

"Sophisticated wireless technology was also used to deceive the players during the games, most commonly in Texas Hold 'Em.

The technology was everywhere - an X-ray table that read any face-down card, analysers inside chip trays, a rigged shuffling machine that read cards and predicted who would have the best hand, and pre-marked cards that allowed those wearing special sunglasses and contact lenses to read what was in everyone's hands.

Secretive cameras - built into tables and light fixtures - also helped convey information to those helping in the plot, authorities say.

Then there was also a sophisticated method of communicating and rigging the game, prosecutors allege.

Information from the game would be sent to an off-site conspirator - called an "operator" by prosecutors - who then would send information to another player sitting at the table who was in on the scheme - who prosecutors call a "quarterback" or "driver".

That person would then secretly signal to others, prosecutors allege, effectively stealing money and making it impossible for victims to win.

Texts from the US justice department's evidence suggest the "quarterback" would either touch the $1,000 poker chip, tap his chin, wrist or arm to signal which conspirator had the best hand.

If the victim had the best hand, the "quarterback" would touch his black chips.

The texts also appear to show that at times conspirators agreed to lose some hands in order to keep victims at the gambling table for longer."
