Mission, your arguments are pretty reasonable re: Pats and Browns and we are not that far apart.

However, Ravens Defensive Coordinator just compared Baker Mayfield to Brett Favre and John Elway in a press conference today. He knows more about football than either you or I do and that is his expert opinion. And Mayfield's team-mates seem to have a very high opinion of him and respond to his leadership. I think you make the mistake of automatically assuming that every newly-emerged star must be vastly overrated - that the public's opinion must certainly be an over-reaction to one or two games. But some times exceptional individuals do enter the league and really are the real thing. We may disagree, but I watched Mayfield in college for years and I do believe he is a major talent.

Browns ascending. Pats on the long slippery slope downward. You need to find some different pinatas to beat every week.

I wonder if mission is holding on posting lines to see if anyone else will actually do it.

Perhaps he is just screwing with the complainers.

Interestingly enough, the thing that updates the time when you refresh the page on VegasInsider is actually slightly faster than world time, so I actually have a picture on my phone that says the lines are from VegasInsider at "11:00 PM EDT," even though they are actually from a little after 22:58, but before 22:59. That's convenient, however, since it gave me the ability to post the picks at 23:00:00 EST, to the second.

Yes, not a dumb question. It just means, "Pick 'Em."

Bonus Answer: Since you have to lay 110 to win 100, it means that the two teams are considered completely equal as far as the Line is concerned. On rare occasions, you'll get a Pick 'Em where you have to lay slightly more on one team and slightly less on another.

In fact, BetOnline has Denver at -112 and the Jets at -110, which actually technically makes Denver a slight favorite, even though it is a Pick 'Em.

Favre and Elway are 1st and 16th, respectively, in career interceptions with the former well over one pick per game and the latter at just under one pick per game. Mayfield has appeared in two NFL games and has two interceptions, so he's right there in that regard.

My cheap dig aside, the Ravens coach was just talking about poise, drive and confidence and all of those things seem pretty true. You can also look at Favre, he threw a ton of picks, but he had a short memory and you need to have that kind of confidence...although certain things (such as the last throw of Favre's career) can come as a result of too much confidence.

I don't know that I assume that they are ALL overrated, but I have to admit that I generally do that. I just want to see at least a few games before we start heaping praise, but Patrick Mahomes has certainly shut my mouth for me so far! I really wanted the Chiefs to be wrong about Mahomes because I felt like they kind of gave the ever reliable Alex Smith the bum rush with a solid three-five years left in the tank.

Yeah, unless the Browns absolutely get killed, I'll find a different angle for them this week. Let's get the Patriots/Colts out of the way now, sorry I don't have anything original for you here:

Colts 24 @ Patriots 38: Head Coach Josh McDaniels and the Colts suffered their fourth defeat of the season in tonight's trip to Foxboro, making Belichick 1-1 against his former protege. Brady does Brady things, the Pats dominate throughout and the more-or-less expected result comes to fruition for a second consecutive week.

It's a pick 'em game where you select 5 games with the spread, cost $5000 to enter. The leader in that contest after the first four weeks receives a $15k bonus. He has a 17-3 record.

If an even money bet was available that the winner of this game and the Westgate game was below 85% at the end of the season, I think you'd have takers.

Yeah, but 4000 entries is a lot of entries to fill out both extremes of a bell shaped curve, so I don't know about the Westgate game. For our little game, winner won't be in the 80's unless there a whole lotta "collusion" going on, bigly.

As long as we all pick against the same line, it doesn't make any difference to me how late or early the line is. In the ESPN contest, everyone picks against the early NFL line as it exists on Tuesday morning of each week - and it's still harder than hell.

I admit I do wish that Mission would promptly post on Sunday morning the picks that each contestant has picked - that makes following the NFL games a lot more fun.

I was actually having some uncharacteristic trouble staying awake until 23:00 a few days ago and was going to switch the time for lines to 22:00 henceforward, but this has been so much fun that I'm just going to keep it at 23:00.

There is a lot of love this week for the Cardinals, Panthers, Packers, and Chiefs.

That's odd. My picks are Default, but were I actually picking, I'm almost positive I'd take the Cowboys +3 against the Texans. I always liked Win/No Decision Picks, which are Picks that I thought would win, but which also had a great line for a reasonable ND possibility.

Sorry. I found so many other mistakes I assumed you weren't taking into account a Confidence Pick as worth 2.

There are a total of 8 picks on the Broncos, not 7.
There are only three picks for the Falcons, not 4.
There are 6 picks for the Steelers, not 5.
There are 6 picks on the Lions, not 5.
There are 13 picks for the Cardinals, not 12.
There are 9 picks on the Rams, not 11.
There are 9 picks for the Texans, not 7.

Packers 23 @ Lions 31: What else could Aaron Rodgers have done? Kick, maybe? Mason Crosby in a bizarrely uncharacteristic effort missed four field goals (though one was a 56 yarder) and an extra point, as tornadoes ravaged the Midwe...what? Ford Field is indoors!? Sometimes you just don't have it, I guess.

Giants 31 @ Panthers 33: When looking for wins on the Browns schedule, I gave them .6 of a win against Carolina, and this is why. The Giants have cutouts of tackling dummies for an offensive line, converted ZERO third downs and almost won. The Browns D can stop Cam air and ground...perhaps easily.

Titans 12 @ Bills 13: Meanwhile, in the Wonder Bread Nobody Cares Bowl, the Bills would emerge as slightly less offensively incompetent as hybrid back Josh Allen averages more yards per attempt rushing than throwing.

Falcons 17 @ Steelers 41: The Steelers finally decided it would be appropriate to meet their offensive potential, though they remain tied with the Browns for the fifth week in a row! Watt put the, "Blitz," back in, "Blitzburgh," as Matt Ryan would be disrupted all day. Bell's presence would have been superfluous, go Conner!

Ravens 9 @ Browns 12: The Browns defense is completely smothering. They are really damn good. Classic, "Bend but don't break," as they held Flacco to ineffective dump offs and forced tons of throwaways. Mayfield was competent, but really had one good throw at the end. Another QB would have already won by then.

Dolphins 17 @ Bengals 27: The Bengals win handily in the Shop & Save Mediocrity Bowl. In this AFC competition featuring two likely playoff teams, neither of whom will advance to the AFC Championship....blah, blah, who cares?

Jaguars 14 @ Chiefs 30: This is really simple: You don't want Blake Bortles throwing the ball 61 times. Jacksonville inexplicably abandoned the running game way early in this one, despite strong YPC. Mahomes comes down to Earth and KC not only wins, but dominates? That's scary.

Raiders 10 @ Chargers 26: F Dean Spanos. Apparently the Jon Gruden, "Brand," of football has something to do with getting dominated in time of possession and abandoning the run early. That's not smashmouth, that's getting your mouth smashed. Gruden's salary still 10M/win.

Vikings 23 @ Eagles 21: And, Lo, Sinners! When thou hath the audacity to spit in the face of the only true Lord and Savior, Tom Brady, a losing record shalt be thine punishment!

Rams 33 @ Seahawks 31: In an unexpected act of defiance, the Legion of Boom is resurrected and at least disrupts the nearly-perfect Jared Goff for a good part of this game. Interestingly, the Seahawks conceivably have three wins in a row coming up, then the Rams again. Weak division otherwise. Playoff Re-Rematch?

Cardinals 28 @ 49ers 18: Because somebody had to win, or it could have been a tie, I guess. Josh Rosen is just so bad. I know a guy with an artificial hip is his second-best target, but still. Can't, "Flex schedule," make this a 4:00a.m. game?

Cowboys 16 @ Texans 19: The Cowboys need their previous quarterback to come out of retirement. No, not Tony Romo. Drew Bledsoe. Troy Aikman also an improvement, but I think Bledsoe is more mobile at this point. Are you still, "America's Team," if the newest car sporting a Star bumper sticker is an '06?

Redskins @ Saints (Tonight): Believe in Alex Smith and he will pick apart the team that lets fans play cornerback for the lulz.

6 minutes and 43 seconds left to go in the 3rd quarter and I'm tempted to just post the results now. We're already over the total and I can't see the Redskins coming back from this.
