There were 13 picks for the Patriots. I was the only one who liked the Jags, so that game was huge for me.Quote: gordonm888... It might get historically ugly if the Cardinals don't cover (and they won't) and the Patriots don't cover.
I finished 3-2 for Week 2. I'm not celebrating, but I'm certainly okay with 3-2. This was a tough week.
Who's the worst? Cardinals or Bills?
Quote: NathanSo I chose both Dolphins and Buffalo Bills. They went head to head and the friendly sea mammals won(my hometown! Woohoo!) whearas the money lost! In Blackjack would this be a push?
I think there is a new rule this year where opposite bets are both counted as a loss.
Edit... I see the dolphins and bills didn't play one another. Oops.

Record of Skip Weeks:
Nathan - Week 1
scolist - Week 1
MaxPen (and everyone else), if you can remember to use the word 'over' and 'under' (instead of just an 'o' and a 'u'), that would help, since my grading program doesn't recognize that single letter by itself.
Congrats to JohnZimbo and DJatc for a fantastic first 2 weeks.
Quote: gordonm888GWAE said he had made Week 2 picks at random but he had the best Week 2, finishing at 5-1.
Congrats to JohnZimbo and DJatc for a fantastic first 2 weeks.
Thanks. I'm curious as to why JohnZimbo never used his confidence this week.
Well, you could start by reading the posts Mission146 made about this very topic. Since there are prizes for last place in addition to first place and closest to 0.500, the rules have to be specific (they are) and applied to everyone equally (I think they are). You have to make a total of 5 picks every week.Quote: NathanThe Dolphins won! How do I have a record of zero wins?
There's always next week !Quote: EdCollinsAs a group, we were horrible. Regular picks went 68-99 and Confidence Picks went 10-13.

Haha my scientific method was nearly spot on. I think I will use this method again.
Keep on keeping on.Quote: EdCollinsAs a group, we were horrible. Regular picks went 68-99 and Confidence Picks went 10-13.

Poor bear...genuine sympathy.
As for me, right now I'm really appreciating my forum name starting with B. Mired in the middle, but looking much better at the head of 6 or so perfect Average contenders. Lol...
Quote: SOOPOOThe Bills had a player retire AT HALFTIME during their game. I watch a lot of football. As bad as they are, and they are VERY bad, the Cardinals do look worse.
Can't agree with this one, the Bills are the new Browns imo.
Quote: djatcThanks. I'm curious as to why JohnZimbo never used his confidence this week.
I wish I had but there wasn't one game that seemed like a Zenking lock of the year to me. Plus I figured I did good week 1, was due to suck week 2 :)
This is definitely going to be a pool proof strategy. I was going to post my picks now so everyone could get some action down but that doesnt seem fair to me.
Quote: GWAEeven though I went 5-1 in my ultra sophisticated strategy I think I am going to change it up a bit. There is some room for improvement so I gotta try. This week I have written down each game on an index card and put them in a random order. I then took 6 match box cars of the colors of a rubix cube and put them in a bag. I took the rubix cube, closed my eyes and scrambled it. I then picked a random side and placed it face up. I had my older son pick a car out of the bag and which ever color car that was I counted those spots on the face up part of the cube. Whatever that number is I counted down the index cards and that was the game we picked. To pick home or away we used the same strategy as last week and flipped coins. To pick the confidence pick we folded the cards into mini paper airplanes and threw them down the hallway. The longest throw is obviously the confidence.
This is definitely going to be a pool proof strategy. I was going to post my picks now so everyone could get some action down but that doesnt seem fair to me.
This would be the silliest nonsense ever, except in the context of amusing and including a 4 (?) year old, it's perfectly logical and understandable. Lol...

Lol thanks. Had to have some fun with it. I am terrible at picking anyways and I have barely watched any games so far so I figure it doesnt really matter.
Quote: NathanI have to be completely honest. I find the wov picks game very hard and daunting. Can i just transfer the gift card to another poster or something like that?
It is hard and daunting. It’s not easy for everyone to look at a list of different options and select five of them. Did I accidentally pick four things? Did I accidentally pick six or seven? What do the words, “Over,” and “Under,” mean in a sports betting context?
I try to keep the matchups on the same line that way you don’t even technically have to know who is playing who. The line says that already. You just have to know not to pick the two teams from the same line, which admittedly, can be pretty difficult.
Anyway, if you like, I can just use random.org to randomize five picks for you as a default strategy. That way you don’t have to face the arduous task of counting to five. If you don’t want to make your picks or do a default strategy, then I guess you’ll eat an 0-5 record every week. It’s up to you, just let me know.

It's going to be a good day. :-)

Hard and daunting?????????
I'm at 60% and have not really watched a single NFL game.
I throw darts at a board, how hard is that
Here is my system
Pick my hometown Bucs, pick my old hometown Ravens
Pick whoever is playing the Skins because I cant stand Dan Snyder
I then pick the longshots that are getting lots of points
Takes me a couple min when Mission releases the spreads
Not daunting at all. If anything, very very easy

I can understand, but this is pretty easy compared to the really difficult tasks you may have already figured out, like tying your shoe, getting out of bed, blinking, eating, and breathing.

Don’t forget creating an E-Mail address and registering for an Internet forum. That’s probably more difficult than this contest.
Good point.Quote: Mission146It is hard and daunting. It’s not easy for everyone to look at a list of different options and select five of them. Did I accidentally pick four things? Did I accidentally pick six or seven?

So, may I suggest that Nathan consider the proven BIRDS and CATS strategy.
Step 1:
Tell Mission146 that you want to pick the CARDINALS, FALCONS, EAGLES, SEAHAWKS, and RAVENS each and every week. Be sure to tell him/her those names in that order.
Step 2:
Since those teams will have a bye week sometime during the season, tell M146 that your back-up defaults are the CAT teams in alphabetical order, BENGALS, JAGUARS, LIONS, and PANTHERS.
Step 3:
Sit back and watch your winning picks roll in. I can guarantee with 99 % certainty that this strategy is better than picking one team each week. If you win the 1st place prize (and that is not mathematically impossible), then you will probably want to have some of your winnings sent to me as a tip for sharing this.

He's messing with you Nathan. Everyone knows teams that start with a B have an edge.
Bears
Browns
Broncos
Bengals
Bills
Buccaneers
I'm not sure if the Baltimore Ravens count... You might want to check with someone who actually watches football.
Set you confidence pick with the buffalo bills... Two B's (or not to be) and use the green bay Packers (kinda a b) as a fall back plan unless Baltimore is in play.
Also, don't overlook the British Columbia lions.
Not sure I should be posting this in public. Send me a PM and I'll gladly make some more stuff up as I go.
Quote: Nathangood and helpful post. only one problem with it. none of those teams are miami dolphins, aka my hometeam. ;)
Uh... No B's...
OK, how 'bout giving me 2-1 odds that if I use my powerful BIRDS strategy, it ends up with an equal or better percentage this week than whatever you pick, provided that:Quote: onenickelmiracleI'm willing to put some friendly wagers this week. Anyone interested?
a) you cannot pick any of the BIRD teams
b) you cannot use the almost as powerful strategy to pick all names that start with a "B"
c) you cannot pm Nathan asking for other tips
BIRDS & CATS is so 90's. You need a strategy that is future-proof: the ALL MAMMAL strategy.Quote: Nathangood and helpful post. only one problem with it. none of those teams are miami dolphins, aka my hometeam. ;)
Always bet on teams with mammalian -- but non-human -- mascots. If you then sort by their species' intelligence, the Dolphins would always be your first pick:
DOLPHINS -- Smarter than some humans & starred in own TV show
BRONCOS -- Have 'horse sense,' and won't willingly let a human sit on it's back -- smart.
COLTS -- Essentially young BRONCOS
LIONS -- If you lie around all day and have the females bring you food, that's gotta be pretty smart
JAGUARS -- Not quite as smart as the 'king,' but they just don't name luxury cars after dumb animals
BENGALS -- Not smart enough to stay off the Endangered Species list.
PANTHERS -- Florida's official state animal, but I have yet to see one in the wild. How dumb is that?
RAMS -- If you spend your time butting your head into things, you can't be that bright
nathan: don't be fooled by these fly by night, shady ner'do-well schemes. Birds and cats is where's it at! Don't worry about the subscription fee, the first week ( well in your case actually the 3rd week ) is free.Quote: JoemanBIRDS & CATS is so 90's.
