today in the NBA the Raptors are on the road at the Magic and are -500 to -600 on the moneyline. The Raptors are only 17-12 away and the Magic are 11-17 at home.

today in the NHL the Lightning are AT HOME against the Sabres and are ONLY -300 to -320 on the moneyline. The Lightning are 21-6-1 at home and the Sabres are 10-15-7 away. Th 3rd no. in the record refers to overtime losses.

I noticed that in the NHL even when the worst teams plays the best teams the moneyline rarely goes much beyond -300 and often is around -260. The Sabres are the worst team in the NHL along with the Coyotes. The Lightning are the best team in the NHL based on the point system used by the NHL.

very interesting.

I think this is better illustrated when looking at playoff series prices. Check how high an NBA 1 seed vs an NBA 8 seed is, and compare it to how low an NHL 1 seed is vs an NHL 8 seed in the series price.

The reason NHL moneylines are lower is because scoring is lower in the NHL. Much more volatility when you are looking at a total of 5.5 to 6 goals as opposed to 210 points being scored.
At my age, a "Life In Prison" sentence is not much of a deterrent.

There is little to no tanking in hockey vs teams and owners openly tanking in the NBA.
