More lines-why not higher HE?

In my country, we mostly watch soccer. We have only 1 bookie: run by the goverment, with house edge of 15%(sometimes 20%, rarely 10%) for most of the "line" bets, if it is a "single" bet.
However I though and realized: more line(on the same bet) won't ruin the return?
If my return after a single bet is 0.85, and I bet on 3 bets(which is the minimum most of the times here), than the edge supposed to be
0.85^3 =0.614...
Now, I am probably wrong since most of the people don't stick to "singles" and bet on 2-3 games at least, and most of the people maybe unfamiliar with math but not that stupid...
Therfrore, I am sure that the edge does not really change...
What is my mistake? I am sure I have one.
Math-oriented answer is also acceptable..
