You may or may not trust offshore sports books, but pros have been betting large amounts of money on them for years. For that amount of money you can get an agent for the online sports book and probably receive some extras, He will guarantee the money and you can avoid waiting for checks and all that crap, you could even set up a credit line. As for the legality of this that's a different story.

does anybody know if the online action in New Jersey takes sports bets?

No. Only Nevada is allowed by the federal government to offer straight sports bets. NJ is suing the federal government to change that.

How do you know already which game you want to bet $50k on? baseball is a long ways away. what if you don't like the line offered...are you still going to bet it?

If I bet $50k on a single baseball game, I'd ask the sportsbook that books your bet for a suite and watch it in there.

Since what you are planning on doing is on the up and up, I would call multiple sports books in advance and ask them. For that much money I would check each book that would accept your wager, and get the best line on the day you plan on placing the wager.

...place a wager of 50k on a baseball team...

I'm assuming (since I don't know) the Vegas bookies offer the best odds. But it would pay to check online bookmakers (I'm sure the UK ones such as Ladbrokes, William Hill, many others have a book on most games), however most the UK ones would reduce the odds for large bets. The other method is on trading sites (such as BetFair), but you're not guaranteed the action. I know some on-course bookies lay-off their bets to BetFair (and similar) {other realise in the long term they're better off keeping the bet although it's most risky}, for a while this led to book values less than 107%.

As an aside - as I would never make a bet that large - but are you allowed to make such a large bet on the internet in the US or elsewhere? In the UK there would be various banking money laundering regulations (as you could bet both sides and clean the money). Also is the US tax man is going to take his cut if you win, might it better to go elsewhere to make the bet?

The first game of the year where starting pitchers are not allowed to throw alot of pitches, players are a little rusty. errors may be made. You have no idea what the waether is gonna be like..if there will be intermittent rain that starts and stops the game.

If you have 50k to throw around I guess its no big deal to you. So its its "play money" that you dont care anout...then the first game of the year is ok to bet for the rush of action you may get.

But if you really want to bet a game you have a better chance of winning...I would wait a month into the season.

LarryS,

Rule #4 here is, "Respect Privacy," which means you should not quote information that is intended to be private, such as PM's. That is why I deleted your most recent post as it had no other content besides quoting a PM. The quote appeared legitimate and included the PM details, so I believe that it was a PM truly sent to you, but you still cannot quote it without prior approval from the sender.

Ok here is the answer,,,,its the only answer

Call the friggin casino. Each casino will have their own maximum for a particular game. We are not representatives of a casino. What we say here is not binding when you walk thru the door of the sportsbook. And there is no maximum accross the board on all sporting events. Some events are "limited".

What are you going to do, walk into a sportsbook with 50k and tell them someone on the WOV board said they would accept the bet?

you have to be smarter than this. The answer is evident.

so why dont you get your mommy to help you dial the number for a vegas casino, and she can help you with the questions to ask and also help explain the response to you.

Some sportsbooks dont open till 8 or 9 am, so make the call AFTER you get back from your paper route.

I am so so happy for you that you got the info you were looking for.

You wouldnt believe it, but in trying to give you an answer initially before I knew about your dead friend......someone actually PM'd me and called me a dumbass and Jack ass......wow.

I dont blame him/her as much as I do the parents who raised him/her. Afterall, if someone is raised without class.....really what can we expect in a civilized society from them.

So in the end I am happy you received your info....I will be able to sleep well tonight.

I will pray for you that you can get the exact bet that you need
