I had $250 on WVU OVER 3.5 losses in the regular season with one of my friends. I'll probably call him tomorrow and remind him about that and make payment arrangements, he's not going to have $250 all at once. I'd have called him today, but he's such a WVU homer that he might be on the verge of suicide right now, I couldn't live with myself knowing I pushed him over the edge...and it'd be harder to get paid!
A big problem with their defense is they are undersized in their front seven. They had only one DL on their roster who was over 300 lbs. One of the big reasons they can't stop anyone on defense is b/c they're getting push around up front. They'll get better, they have a good staff, they just need time to recruit the depth they need.
You don't go from the Big East to the Big 12 and expect to dominate.

I agree with your analysis completely. You'd be hard-pressed to sell most WVU fans on that analysis before the season started, though. I told them, "That defense is going to be a sieve, but I admit that the offense is nasty, Geno Smith is nasty, but the problem is a shoot-out is a coin-flip, and you're just not going to win every coin-flip. They'll make good defenses look bad and bad offenses look like world-beaters, win or lose, but that is not going to be sustainable."
I was surprised, though, my friend actually called me today and said he's got the $250 whenever I want it and just to let him know when to pick it up. He's single and his income is probably about 150% of mine, but he's the type of guy that will go to a $17.99 buffet that includes the drink, alone, and still find a way to end up with an $80 check, so surprised he's got it all at once.
Kansas State - 12.5
They're good, but not that good.
Quote: 98ClubsJust heard on Bloomberg within the hour ND ranked #1 in one of the polls.
Yes, Oregon and K-State both lost. Oregon was BS, I still don't think the Stanford player had possession until part of his body was out of bounds. K-State just played terrible. Also ticked that my alma mater Mizzou choked and will likely miss a bowl now.

I respectfully disagree with you. Notre Dame (11-0) has beaten three teams that are still ranked very high, and a fourth team (Michigan State) who was ranked at the time, but is no longer. The three teams are Oklahoma, (who just won in a shootout against WVU) Michigan, (who, while not great, just mercilessly pummeled Iowa) and Stanford (who just knocked off #2 Oregon in OT).
I cannot say for sure that Notre Dame will prevail over U.S.C., or win the National Championship if they do, but in my personal opinion, Notre Dame has done more than enough to justify being the #1 team in the country at this moment. Did they play a couple of not-so-stellar teams close? Sure. However, they have some huge wins over excellent teams and their loss column still reads, "0."

All they can do is play the schedule, though. Before the season it was called toughest in the country, and even though some teams haven't fared well, there are still 4 ranked teams they've beaten. And every team they've played has been at least .500 when they've played them, save BC; they didn't play any Appalacian States (let alone lose to them, like they did to Tulsa a couple years ago). And don't forget that ND is the big game on EVERY team's schedule.
They looked shaky the last couple weeks, until today. They also destroyed Oklahoma, Miami, and Michigan State, and beat the Stanford team that just beat Oregon.
Golson has really improved this season. If he has a big game next week, then they have to be considered the team to beat. Would you agree that they deserve it if they play Jan 7th and win regardless of the opponent? If they beat, say, Georgia, or LSU, if 'Bama gets scheduled against Oregon? Remember that prejudices work both ways... Alabama can't be world beaters AND also get beat. There is an SEC bias that keeps people from remembering that it's just a bunch of college kids. Good ones, sure, but college kids.
First team to 10 wins. ;oP
I think it was Mosca who said before the season began, they had the toughest schedule in the country. Not their fault the teams they played have been off a little. Of course, with a D like ND has, they can make great teams look average (see Oklahoma).
It has been 19 years since my beloved Irish have been ranked #1, and been since I was 17 since a national championship came home to the Motherland!
I am starting to get excited.
On a related note, I will be at the Colosseum with my boys on Saturday to watch them go 12-0 against the Trojans. I have terrible seats, but got them at a great price. With Barkley out, should be a little easier game, if the secondary holds up as well as they have this year.
Go Irish!!!!!
@98Clubs....I read somewhere that ND was 4-0 against Bear Bryant. Wonder if that ate at him over the years after the way '66 panned out!
